Patrick Chen's story is an ominous warning to Nathan Chen and other ethnic Chinese who represents the imperialist Anglo countries. Patrick Chen chose to compete for Canada. He won an Olympic gold for Canada in 2018. Yet he retired an average-wealth guy, and he and his family are still subjected to racist attacks in Canada. He had mentioned that in a 'perfect world' he would have liked to represent both China and Canada. But he gets slammed left and right in Canada, and especially by the media. So much for freedom of speech. Not a very happy ending for choosing Canada over China is it?

People can say whatever they like about Eileen Gu. Whether she is really genuine in representing China or not, we don't really know. But she definitely chose the most challenging path to personal glory. She will be loved in China, but will be universally hated in the West and other Sinophobic societies in the East. Is the money worth it? Yes of course. But her legacy in the democrazy, English-speaking world will be tarnished. Nevertheless, she still chose the correct choice as a fellow Chinese. Don't care if she is half-white, China will treat her much better than America ever could.

Regardless of his Olympic Gold, Nathan Chen and his family will still be treated as the most hated minority in the US. He will only have the Olympic glory during the current games. After that, its back to 'business as usual' in the US. Meanwhile Eileen Gu will be a celebrity in China. Zhu Yi will not be as well liked as Eileen Gu, but she will be safe in China. There would be nobody to call her Chink. Nobody to stamp on her mother's head. Nobody to push her onto the subway tracks. Zhu Yi made the right choice, regardless of her situation in the games. Nathan Chen will have a big decision to make. America will not ease off the Yellow Peril anytime soon. Let's see how loyal he will be to America at the 2026 Olympics.

this is a great video to illustrate where our differences might be:
1) I completely agree with the main thesis of the video: he would have been better off if he competed for China.
2) But I support him to compete for any country and win gold as he can. I don't see this as that political. It's his life/career and his call how he wants to develop it. and it's his lesson to learn if he makes a bad call. Of course if he represented China, I would be glad to see my country getting more medals. But I think even he didn't, China might still benefit as other foreign born Chinese might learn from his lessons. Over time, the push and pull factor will tip the balance of consideration for more and more oversea Chinese in more fields of importance.
3) In my own experience, the more Asian hate/racism, the more nationalist I become. I wouldn't be surprised Chan's Chineseness grew as Canadian bash him for his Chinese heritage. So my question is, if Chinese people bashes any foreign born Chinese athletes as disgraceful if they represent their country of birth, will that make switching to China more attractive to them? Is it a smart thing to do for Chinese people to tell every top foreign born Chinese athletes that you are either with us or against us? I would adopt a policy of "we would love you a lot more if you join us. But we love and support you nonetheless." When Gu switched, she felt closeness to both China and US. But with the negative if not nasty US media, I don't think she is going back. the Americans drove her more into Chinese people's arms.

The real value of Eileen Gu is that it shows if you are a talented individual of Asian descent, it is possible for you to achieve great success in mainland China. Getting gold medals in sports is symbolic victory. The real value is getting talents in science and tech to go back as well, a trend helped by witch hunts against ethnic Chinese scientists.

I don't get the hype with Eileen Gu. It's cool that she decided to represent China at the Olympics, and even more cool that she won the gold. But the hundreds millions of $ from advertisement she earns will most likely spent in the USA.

How about the Chinese athletes born in China? Do they get the same treatment? They live in China, spent they money in China and train in China.
It's symbolic of what the US fears in the future since it's forcing this choice on the world... choosing China over the US.

Gu will be educated in the US, her future mentors from Stanford will be Americans. Her future husband will likely be American white. But she said it best: she’s 100% American while in America. And she can be 100% Chinese when she’s in China. But her thought process and who she is deep down is more ABC than Chinese. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

It is not about Eileen Gu. It isn't about nationalism or patriotism. Whatever reasons why Eileen Gu decided to represent China isn't important either. MSM and the US have been playing the Americans and Western exceptionalism card for years. In their ideal world, people when given a choice, they would always choose the US over China. Eileen Gu decided to represent China at the Olympics when She is the top seed in the US has ripped apart the thinking of their exceptionalism.

That's why MSM, Americans, and politicians are so upset and angry. America is good and China is bad. America is the chosen one. America is the place of heaven. People would always choose the US when given a choice. Why an American born and educated person who choose to represent a communist, yellow, not Christian country who commit genocide.

At this moment, mainland Chinese are just enjoying Eileen Gu ripped apart the American exceptionalism. Whatever the reason and whatever the future is not an issue. In addition, the Chinese government is serious about courting talents from overseas Chinese within three generations to represent or work in China. Eileen Gu would set a good example to attract them.

There's also nothing absolutely wrong if she chose to be more Chinese than ABC. Remember she did spent a lot of her summers in China when she was growing up. Therefore her future husband could be Chinese or ABC, instead of white. To me it looks like she is very close to here mom side of the family which are Chinese. :)

Does it matter? What is important right now is that she has made tens of millions at the envy of all other winter Olympics athletes and from the jealousy and sour grape of MSM.

It matters a lot to those barbaric judeo-christian empire folks that tries to rule China and the world. The success and rising Communist China means the end of their "God and lord and savior Jesus Christ". They will not and can not live peacefully with anyone different from them. I'm sorry to say it, but that's a fact.
