2020: JMSDF & PLAN Surface Combatant strength

If JMSDF is where it is today with its current constitution, can you imagine what it will be like if it actually starts to expand?

JMSDF makes the Royal Navy look like a back water fishing force, well that is until the Royal Navy carrier strike groups come into effect, JMSDF has so much "critical mass"

that is true.. the Japanese people are highly innovative and a highly advanced society. They are also insanely dedicated to their work that some would actually commit suicide if they lose their jobs etc.

Hypothetically if they go on full militarized mode, Japan would be militarily the most advanced nation on Earth within a short time and constrained only by resources and quantity but quality and technology wise would be 2nd to none.
If they really want to they also have the technology and fissile materials to easily develop a few nuclear weapons in as soon as 3-4 months.

Japan is looking into buying 42 F35, and they have two 22DDH flat tops in the process, actually not in the process one is under build and one will be built after the first one

Added to the two flat tops they already have that will give Japan 4 very capable flat tops with two having the ability to launch aircraft

Pictures for these 22DDH are rare but if anyone speaks Japanese they could identify the following pictures, I think it's of the first 22DDH under construction at Yokohama shipyard, very formidable ships

Here are the best recent construction images I have found.

They are five recent construction images of the 1st in class JMSDF, 22DDH aircraft Carrier, DDH-183.

The first is from March 2013 and shows the hull complete and the flight deck nearing completion with. The next two, show the island progressing, and the last two show the island almost structurally complete. These are from May 2013 to the start of June 2013.

It is coming along very nicely and due to launch in 2014 to my understanding.

I actually think the Hyuga Class can load F35B what you think? Plus with the two 22DDH each lifting 12 F35B each this could mean the following

2x 22DDH = 24 F35B
2 x Hyuga Class 6-8 F35B each = 12-14 F35B

Total aircraft lift 36-38 F35B and Japan has a order of 42 F35 on the cards, with F35B and vertical landing and take off many of the inherit problems are solved compared to fully blown carrier, with others coming into play, it's easier surging 2 STOBAR than 2 CATOBAR which really mean JMSDF can surge out a few of these flat tops, a side note is that Royal Navy will be able to surge both QE if only they are both STOBAR not CATOBAR

JMSDF has a close working relationship with USN, themselves the JMSDF is one of the more profficent and efficient Navy in the world, thier standard is extremely high and thier experience is much I think hey could send out 3 out of their 4 aircraft carrying flat tops which could mean having the capability to launch 24-30 F35B

I hate to say that some idiots have stated equipping the new Queen Elizebath carriers with just 12 F35B each!!! This means JMSDF has the same capability in sorties rates as the Royal Navy or close, however the chances are that the two QE will have 36-48 aircraft each which puts Royal Navy way ahead

Anyhow what this really does show is that JMSDF is taking a much more proactive role in the worlds oceans, they obviously have no plan to sit back and just fall back in the competition, more over in my opinion the F35B will transform the likes of the 22DDH and Hyuga ships into light aircraft carriers and allow them to provide air cover for a over the horizon assault all on thier own, short of building thier own carriers a capability which would otherwise be un available to the JMSDF

However strong the Japanese may be militarily at any given moment, it is also important not to overrate them either, which is why I consider that if push came to shove China and Russia can best whatever the Japanese may throw at them especially from this point forward.

The most important element in a war is resources, which is what Japan lacks and desperately seeks. It would not be a problem if it fights a small country, but fighting someone like China would be a different story.
