I think some people are getting their panties unnecessarily in a tangle here. Rogoway did NOT say it was a copy. What he does say is: 'So it is unlikely to be any sort of a copy, although the D-21's influence may be present.'

There it is... 'influences may be present' - which is very probably true. Chill out ladies :D
It was a subtle diss at Chinese products. You can pretty much say the same shit about any planes that goes supersonic

That is what I was talking about him being typical. The kind of influence can also be seen everywhere of everything, more so in any rocket from V-2. However I have never seen these people talking about the influence except when they talk about China. Selective judgement, taking credit of other's success.

Claiming “influence” is a very bold claim.

Just because China shot down a few D-21 does not mean they have any relation to a far more advanced project. It’s a laughable claim without substantial proof to back it up.

By that logic, maybe the F-22 bears influences from the MiG-21. Some MiG-21 were lost over Vietnam, which could have been studied for the F-22.

“Influences from the mig-21 may be present” and it’s very probably true...

Well every modern day weapon has it's roots in something China invented. People get touchy when I say that but it's true. The sciences were not seen as witchcraft in China. They don't like the idea that they own the Chinese just like they want to believe the Chinese own them because China has a hypersonic vehicle.

Perfectly well said. "They" never have to deal with this sort of shit. I can understand it for things that are very obviously bearing a resemblance or has been strongly influenced by ie J-11 with Su-27 and J-31 with F-22/F-35, respectively.

But the assumptions made for one mysterious high supersonic/hypersonic drone under a tarp may be influenced by a 40 year old drone? In what way? These idiots don't have the technical ability to go into any further detail. They see a superficial resemblance and all of a sudden the materials are also identical because China possesses spectrometry equipment better than everyone else and they're able to uncook an egg and work out not just perfect composition but also processing. What else? Ahh yes software is also the same after all 1970s software is developed the same way and Chinese can see code. The FCS, avionics, and mechanics are also identical. Shot down technology is still remarkably intact for reverse engineering and basic structural engineering is far beyond what dumb Chinese are capable of. Wind tunnels in China are all fakes. So are the computers. We all know Chinese aerospace can only copy foreign airfoils. It's NOT because physics is universal and every other nation's case of copying and bearing a strong resemblance is pure coincidence.

It's just lazy writing and prejudice backed by little to no solid evidence. Has the writer had previous history of doing this?

On Chinese matters, most publicly accessible journalism is pure speculation (usually inaccurate like calling Al-31 a RD-33) with typical western arrogance and judgemental attitude. Exceptions to this are rare. As rare as genuine intelligence and thoughtfulness among any human population group.

Not exactly directly related to the parade, but this is the commemorative medal for PRC's 70th anniversary.

I make no apologies for my earlier comment. China's technological advances over the last 20years or so have been nothing short of amazing, and need to be seen and acknowledged as such. I for one am in awe of many of the things that they have achieved and if .. and I stress 'if' ... at any point in that 20 years some of those advances/developments have been 'influenced' ( also read inspired/promoted/driven/encouraged) by other developments by other nations , where is the shame in that?

Data ,information, ideas, concepts. These things rarely arise from a vacuum. I think you are all being way too 'precious' about China and its accomplishments; and way too sensitive about a very low key comment from someone I believed not to be held in high esteem for his analysis.

Anyway keep doing what you do and try not to get those panties too bunched.

I do so enjoy this forum.
