The US is becoming increasingly isolated.

Malvinas/Crimea: Cristina Fernandez blasts UK on “double standard”

Argentine President Cristina Fernández has criticized what she dubbed a “double standard” from the United Kingdom, due to the nation condemning the Crimean referendum on union with Russia while supporting the rights of Falklands/Malvinas residents to hold a vote on their future.
“If those who are carrying out the plebiscite in Crimea are in the wrong, the 'Kelpers' on the other hand are fine,” the head of state fired ironically, speaking out on recent tensions between Russia and the European Union over the region.

“In Crimea the right to self determination is not valid and in the Malvinas Islands it is, what's the standard?”

In Cristina Fernandez eyes, Britain's stance over the disputed Ukrainian region “does not stand up to the slightest analysis.”

“Right now the conflict with Argentina is based on a double standard. Now all of the great powers vote in favor of self-determination for a population. They cannot put themselves forward as keepers of the world,” CFK asserted.

"very funny" France considers not arming the Russians:

the headline here

says something like

Using the Mistrals, France Wants to Lure Putin to Negotiations

but the article doesn't say much, quotes this:

Anybody who knows the French language please tell me what I need to know :)
A French member of parliament for the opposition UMP party, Bruno Le Maire, previously minister for European affairs, doesn't want France to deliver the Mistral frigates ( sic ) to Russia.

I would like to congratulate Moscow on regaining control of Crimea a mere twenty years after they lost it.
Write a letter to Mr Putin! If you're living in Europe you might get a watch or something!
Read the article I linked.
It says nothing about benefits. It only mentions that Russians already pumped billions in South Osetia and it was like a blood in the sand... But few quotes were funny ;)
That was why when it all collapsed, and we had the pain of perestroika, the bandit capitalism of the 1990s, and then the mess of the Ukrainian state, it was so painful.
those bandits were from Russia mainly he forgot to mention ;) And this is pure gold
Putin is corrupt of course, but he steals in a cultured way. He says: 'I will take 50%, and give 50% to the people. We will get something at least.'
People like that are widely known and called 'homo sovieticus' who remember the times when no one had anything.

That conclusion is an opinion expressed by the writer of that article. It doesn't change the FACT that Russia promised billions to the Crimeans.

Your original argument was that the numbers given in the referendum were not credible on a mathematical basis. I have since pointed out that you were making the problematic assumption that the votes were going to be split along ethnic lines.

Really, it doesn't matter what you think of Russia's efforts to woo the Crimeans. The only relevant factors are that Russia *did* woo the Crimeans. Whether or not they were sucessful, and whether or not the referendum numbers are suspect, can only be conjectures at this point, having no evidence to back it up either way.

However, you cannot just point to the numbers and claim it proves something.

oh that's just great, it's the opposition saying this?! (then there's a mistake in the Russian article, as that Le Maire person is referred to as Госсекретарь which would be the Secretary of State :) as you can see, I know nothing about current French politics)
Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, but from the opposition, it's probably a hypocrisy (they don't care about a couple of billion euros) ... but from the government, it'd probably be a stupidity to arm the Russian Navy at times like this!

oh :-( about one hour ago the first soldier (Ukrainian) was KIA, at a parking lot of the military base in Simferopol (now even Russian servers and BBC inform about this; it hit Central European media about half an hour ago) ... hope it's not a hoax, but I'd prefer if it was ...
