I have to say Lincoln has always been my favorite US President. His detractors criticize him on the grounds that he broke up the country and started the civil war. Uh huh, they conveniently ignore the *why*. Is it worth it to start a war to end slavery? Hell yes!

Lincoln is great because he's willing to do what's right regardless of repercussions. Unlike so many other presidents who are more concerned with votes than with what's right and what's wrong.

Our polling place was moved from an elementary school to a church about four blocks away from said school..however the voters were not informed of the move. Fortunately the old polling place had a sign on the door minus directions with the name of the new polling place....but we found it anyway.

My goodness, the same happened to us. Only our polling place was moved to an elementary school closer to our house. I went to the old place first and it was packed! I was even more depressed when I found out that I was in the wrong place. However, there was hardly a line at the new place and I was able to finish it within 20 minute. I love it! Well, except the fact that I didn't get that "I voted" pin...

US Markets are down significantly today.

How about the Repblicans lost because Mitt Romney was just a horrible candidate? He's tried before with middle of the road positions but then he had to flip-flop and go extreme right just to get the GOP nomination. His biggest gain against Obama is when he went back to the center. But then the last week the general public was just reminded of how he sucks going back to extreme right tactics with him getting caught spinning and lying about Ohio Jeep jobs going to China and another spin how it was true and then Ryan playing the "how Obama is not like us" card regarding American values. Bad strategy if the Romney camp thought that was going to give him that extra bump like with the GOP nomination. Obama basically swept the swing votes states by slight margins. Romney's little swing to the right in the end probably cost him. Romney probably thought independent voters were stupid when they're probably smarter than your average Democrat or Republican.

Regarding Republicans sucking up to minorities... I've heard that for multiple election cycles and they still haven't pulled the trigger. Let's face the fact... the Republicans are about one constituency and that has been their strength and why Democrats have been literally divided in the past. More Democrats will vote Republican than the other way around. The Republicans had their chance to maybe get Latino votes with Marco Rubio instead of Paul Ryan. I bet many in the Latin community saw that as Republican old ways still in control.

Someone brought up the Democrats were the party of slavery. Yeah that's true but when African-Americans were given the right to vote, guess whose party all of the sudden found a new group of voters in their districts that if they didn't suck up to, they weren't going to get elected. So when that happened those that were for slavery left the party to go else where. That's why the Democrats now are the party for minorities and diversity. But as things go and I've given accounts in the capital of liberal Democrat politics, San Francisco, the Democrats are no different from the Republicans that they point the finger in regard to the Chinese-American community in San Francisco. They can't suck up to everyone and with so many constituencies they have to deal with, they're bound to disenfrancise some. Take a look how they treat the Chinese community in San Francisco who don't vote like they should. But when they do, the Democratic establishment acts like Chinese voting is a foreign invasion. The Republicans should be taking advantage of that since the Chinese are the largest minority group in SF but they don't. It's probably too late now since a lot of Democratic candidates in SF know they can win against the elitist left-wing establishment by sucking up to the Chinese. If Republicans wanted to brand Democrats racist, they just have to go to San Francisco. But they don't. Maybe because they haven't heard of it or maybe like the Latin community saw when Romney didn't pick Marco Rubio as VP, the Republicans were just set in their traditional ways. That's why sucking up to minorities is probably not in the cards in the near future.

I can sense Mitt Romney's defeat when he picked Paul Ryan as his running mate. I thought he would pick Marco Rubio to garner Hispanic votes. Picking Ryan sends the message that the GOP doesn't need minority votes. They pay a dear price for that assumption.
Many GOP states are associated with anti-immigration tones like Alabama, Mississipi, etc.
Picking Ryan only aggravates this.

I am sure Governor Romney agrees that the bigger loss, by far, is to our country. Out of control spending will attempt to continue. This administration has no bidget, has not produced one in over three years, and is not likely to produce one in the near future.

But that is how we do things here, and the people have chosen.

As so many family and friends were contacting me last night and voicing their sadness and frsutration, I penned the following to them, because it is how I feel and what we must do in order to move forward:

God in Heaven has answered our prayers...but not in the way we supposed.

I have faith in Him, and accept His will. It just means we have to work harder, that we will probably have to endure more, and that we have to have even more trust in Him during these difficult times until we throw off these internal enemies mascerading as "caring" leaders. God in Heaven IS IN CHARGE, and He knows what He is doing.

God grant that we all stay true and prepare for the next mid-terms and the next presidential election. We must be in this for the long haul...like any parent is with their own loved children, who loves them and seeks to help them even if they take a wayward path. That is something we can, and must do. Thank God we still have the House of Representatives to mitigate the situation.

Thank God those who came before never threw in the towel. They endured much more than we have had to endure so far...and now, maybe it is our turn.

But can we give up?

NO! As God is my witness, America is still our nation and the indespensable nation worth fighting for. We have to spend time, touch hearts, educate those around us as to the fundamental moral and economic issues upon which our freedom and prosperity are built, and then keep the faith. God bless America, all of it, and all of our people, and may we persevere and committ ourselves to working even harder for the future of our Republic!

Jeff, as a fellow Christian and also right leaning I am agreeing for the most part with what you say on the surface BUT personally I would not have written what you wrote simply because of this. The Republican Party is NOT God's party and many of it's leaders are certainly no more Christian than their counterpart.

Your letter implies Republican Party = God's Party, Democrat = Satan's and I have to respectfully disagree. There are just as many saints and devils in either party. They are political party not religious ones. When I seek biblical wisdom and counsel I go to my pastor I do not go to my senator or representative etc for spiritual guidance.

First, I never said GOP or Republican Party.

I am actually an Independent, and espouse what are these days called, Consevative Principles. I am willing to vote for anyone, of any party, who espouses those same principles, and have done so.

In this election, I believed Romney was much closer to them than I believe Obama is...but the people have made their choice, and now we must move on.

As to the House of Representatives, the more every-day type people we get there who espouse modern conservative principles, the better, no matter which party they belong to. So, please do not read more into my writing than what is there...had you asked, I could have explained it to you without such a public exchange.

My letter was not meant to say that the GOP=God's will. In fact, my intent was to clearly state to others that God's will transcended the election itself and that I am more than willing to accept His will and work for the long term improvement of the country by working with other parties, whomever they may be, in the advancement of fundamental moral and economic prionciples.

And this is why you shouldn't mix politics and religion.
