Going back to this satellite picture, it seems to show a 12m pressure hull with missile tubes in it. This is an old picture from 2022 but could anyone more knowledgeable about submarines say whether this is more likely for the 096 or 095 judging by the missile tubes? 12m seems like the right beam for an SSN but a bit too small for a SSBN considering both Borei and Columbia has a beam of over 13m and the tender at Huludao that called for the machinery to build hulls as large as 14m.
it is definitely for type 095 SSN. as we all know that, two units currently are under construction.

type 096 construction back in 2022 is not possible.

What do rumors say about the status of the 09VI project? Has construction begun?

Is China going to go with the Russian way where Borei and Yasen were both initially based on the Akula hull and reactor or are both attack and strategic subs going to diverge more?

Yasen was a new build from the beginning, with new reactor and hull. First Borey was using hull parts and reactor from unfinished Akulas and Oscars, second and third were using only hull parts. Both designs per se are not based on Akula (Project 971).
