Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

the thing is we have seen 3 x Type 094 SSBN at Yulin and the 4th is already in the water confirmed last year

so this appears to be a 5th unit rather than 4th

i would say thats the 5th unit the dimensions are clear its a Type 094 SSBN even although the picture is not clearly show the tubes

The thing is, this could be one of the earlier three boats coming back for maintenance.

That SSBN is in a dry dock and SSBN only go into such a extensive programme if there was a incident or accident or when they do a refit

We have not heard of any incidents for repairs to be done and if one of those first 3 was due in for a overhaul then they wouldn't send them so far south to Yulin just for a few months ago only to call one of them back to be put into a dry dock

Can't be 4th so must be the 5th

Well I certainly do hope that is a 5th 094, but I'm not fully confident either way.

A new image shows the 5th 094 SSBN under construction. This is believed to be a new variant like the 4th boat with a modified hull and also a casing shielding the propellers

Surely worth reading article.

I dont think that china´s land-based ICBM´s are less secure than a SSBN. Quite the contrary is the case. The chinese ICBMs are far more safe than the jin class.

I think that china is developing SSBN´s in order to expand its nuclear options, and for prestige (all declared nuclear nations have SSBNs. China cant be diferent)

Completely agreed! With the massive landmass, various kinds of terrain and a comprehensive network of air defense, their land-based ICBM is very secure. I would imagine it would be almost impossible for anyone to penetrate thousands of miles into China's air space while bypassing layers after layers of air defense to attack its ICBM sites, assuming anyone could actually find out the exact location of these sites...
