Interesting video, especially the comments from various US admirals suggesting China's SSN's are a lot more advanced than they are usually given credit for. One quibble - the video states that the model we've all seen is 09V not 09IIIB, which I think is wrong as the model is double hull.

It's better than most commentaries, and the channel has clearly done a bit of legwork and thinking on the topic where many of the points raised are actually fairly close to what we've discerned over the years.
In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the people behind the channel have also read this forum for some of their PLA related videos like this one.

That said, I agree that attributing the model as 09V is a bit of an overstep and might come back to bite them.

I think in the current video about Chinese submarines he is trying to balance out
his last Chinese Naval bases against US navy and surrounding countries, though
in that particular video he fully downgraded the Chinese capabilities against US
naval force

Did I say get rid of nukes? I said minimally neccessary deterrence. You don't need 1,500 nukes like Russia has to ensure MAD. In fact, I think China's arsenal of about 300 nukes (about the same as France and Britain) is perfectly sized.

That 300 number is just an estimate by a European think tank if I recall correctly. My gut feeling is that it's much higher but far behind when compared to Russia and the US. But, with an undeclared alliance with Russia, China wouldn't need that many nukes now.

I do believe there is a UN treaty that forbids this. And since China have put so much effort into the UN, their credibility would evaporate overnight if they tried it.

Yeah, and what will destroy them? Are you sure that they will suceed in destroying them before they destroy Chinese SSBNs? Are you willing to put ultimate security of China on that bet?

You don't build 8 same technological demonstrators. You build one, test it, then another, improved, test it, then next, improved, test it etc. until you are finally happy with the product. Then you start with serial production.

Wasn't there a large number of prototypes for the J-20? Why wouldn't they build a number of them?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. When the US launches (i.e. icbm's), so will Russia and China. There's no time to discuss it in a committee.
