As such, I think it reasons that 093A (the later builds) were at Victor 3 level in noise level, probably around later Sturgeon build. The 093B's noise level is likely to be early to middle LA class and comparable to Akula class that were completed around 1990. While that may not sound so impressive, you should think about the small size of 093B. In terms of overall combat capability, Of course, all of this is just a guess until the boats go in service. I would imagine that PLAN would not mass produce anything worse than LA class.

Which gets us to the industrial side of things. With this huge shipyard available, it makes a lot of sense for them to take the next few years to scale up production and train all the workers needed to produce a lot of nuclear submarines. The work force should be ready to really pump out submarines once they become comfortable with mass producing 095s. Lyman predicted at least 8 093Bs in this batch. That is probably reasonable for both industrial and training purposes.
I would take 8 iLA or PIKE-M(Akula III) type boats in a heart beat. The fact that the LA class is still in active frontline service with the USN speaks volumes. It's still a very capable platform. So if the type 093B can match or surpass the iLA class or PIKE-M in overall performance it will be a huge boost to the PLAN going forward until type 095 is launched.

he also said. this decade will be Submarine decade for PLAN just like previous one belongs to air force and surface ships in terms of scale up production. PLAN finally started to work on their biggest weakness. interesting time ahead
Agree the achilles heel now facing the PLAN is a credible fast attack nuclear submarine force to match(compliment) it's destroyer surface force. The Pacific is too vast and PLAN lacks bases to cover the Pacific. A force requirement of 50+ (type 093B/095/A/Bs etc.) is needed at a bare minimum and should be the goal. I would place the production of the type 095 over the type 096 boats. The PLAN has enough ballistic missile subs. They have NO flexibility , require protection and are limited to just one role "second strike". The H-20(once it has entered service) and the DF-41 offer more.

"a large force of fast attack nuclear submarines combined with a large surface force keeps the USN at bay" ...ballistic missile subs don't

For comparison, the Russian Navy has 12-14 SSNs and SSGNs in service, with another 10 undergoing refit or sea trials and 1 in reserve = 25 Russian SSNs and SSGNs in total.

Meanwhile, China only has 9-10 SSNs in total. Those alone would have to face 50 American SSNs - A ratio of 1 : 5, regardless of the general status of their respective SSN fleets.

I would say that it would be optimal for China to have her own SSBN fleet that is equal to the size and firepower of her American counterpart.

China's submarine decade just begun. wait and watch. by 2030 PLAN sub fleet will be much larger than what we are thinking.

type 093B first batch construction has begun. total 8 subs

type 095 construction will begin soon. if those leaked satellite pics are real.
