Why would you close limber holes? The whole point is to have water flow freely past the secondary hull.

They make noise underwater, so they are usually closed using a spring mechanism

I was shocked for a moment to see H I Sutton bite for such an obvious and famous ps photo. Then I went directly for the date and as expected found out world is still a sane place.

His piece made it into one or two serious magazines. I use the term "serious" loosely though. I think he actually tweeted a April Fools reminder later because some folks got quite irate over thinking it was real.
