Some other examples of submarine VLS. This is from the Virginia class. It differs very much from the LA class.
Inside it looks a lot more like a boomer's launch tube that is sleeved for smaller missiles. In this case I think its like the Ohio's.
SAAB looks to do the same approach with its SSK design.
I would think that doing the same approach to the 094's tubes might be interesting and can convert the sub into a cruise missile platform.
And speaking of which, this is the Type 032 caught with one of its VLS tubes open. The fact that its on this sub means the PLAN is more likely to pursue this kind of VLS on a future submarine, with the VLS in the front. It would be interesting though if they pursued the sleeved approach to the 032's ballistic missile tubes on the sail, which can enable the submarine to carry as much as 24 cruise missiles instead.
