Yes but I believe what manqianrexue was referring to was the submarine screws (propellers) that sound it makes under water that gets recorded. That's the critical intelligence that opposing navy would use as data to track subs.
Not just the screw's cavitation noise, but also the shaft noise, hydrodynamic noise, steam turbine noise, fuel pump noise, A/C noise, etc.

need verify, new rumor (actually a news report) PLAN received a new nuclear sub (not sure about model) with shaftless rim-driven pumpjet, based on Prof. Ma's IEP tech. result is the sub is very quiet. As said, need some serious confirmation.

When was this article? I remember reading something back in September of 2017 about the PLAN receiving a new nuclear submarine, then in October, some news about a permanent magnet motor or propulsion vehicle that was being tested in Sanya, which is submarine base but also has surface ships. I don't know if these two articles are referring to one and the same ship, or these are different vessels.

That looks like the bow of a Ming class submarine, or some other old-school WWII-era submarine without a teardrop hull. How such a sub could have had a rim drive installed is beyond me.

In the photo of Type 093B taken by JMSDF on Jan 12, there may be a retractable towed array sonar (TAS) mounted on the top of its upper tailfin.

Although it's not well covered in English language media, Japanese newspapers reported that Japanese Defense Minister said, a submerged sub (then officially unknown, later known as type 093B by photo) and Chinese Frigate Yiyang entered contiguous zone of Taishojima (one of Senkaku islands) at the same on a.m. of Jan 11, and sailed same route for a while.
