The same Rear Admiral Ma that developed China's EM Catapult has confirmed 095 will be using all electric shaft-less rim drive pump jet, so it will be way quieter than the Virginia, akin to a Prius or a Volt for that matter comparing to a Geo Metro

How are you so certain 095 using a just-developed and unproven technology, in real world environments, would be "way quieter" than the Virginia-class SSNs? What do you know of the Virginia Class and where's your data to support EM-drive 095 would be much more quiet?

Like they say ignorance is a bliss. For your information em drive 95 mean the propeller is directly connected to DC drive. There is no transmission gear which eliminate large source of noise!
The reactor is only use to generate electricity which in turn fed to DC motor . I believe most Chinese submarine even the diesel one already are direct drive

Shroud propeller again reduce the cavitation of propeller I already posted the paper why it is so

So yeah just by looking at how the propeller is driven and what type of propeller It can tell you a lot about the noise characteristic of submarine

We don't know the detail of virginia but by adding the natural circulation reactor, direct drive propeller, and shroud propeller It eliminae mjor source of noise and should have outstanding noise characteristic no less so than Virginia

How do I know? Geez let me use my philosopher's stance and start thinking on my knees how about trying some common sense? Another breakthrough (electric shaft-less rim-drive pump jet), on top of the other one (natural circulation) recently disclosed, in addition to several other achievements in submarine noise reduction. We haven't heard anything similar yet on the latest and greatest advances on the submarine nuclear reactor front, but I trust China has also made big stride there too, based on the bits and pieces of information that have been leaked.

Step by step, China is putting together the necessary technologies and subsystems that will drive her next-generation nuclear submarines. I look forward to 095/096 and beyond.

This indeed could make China's subs quiter than the Virginia-class SSNs.

The abstracts shows dates from 2011 and it says the technology was recently developed. Might it be that several test ships have been built since 2011 or even earlier that proved the reliability of the system and that now the decision has been taken to set up large scale production of new ship types using the system i.e. 095 and 055?

It's the same technology that's gonna be on the US's yet to be developed Columbia SSBN because US can't develope it due to the complicated reasons such as US's atrophied industrial base capacity all the smart people wants to be a finance quants busy at bring you the subprime meltdown and US's low cost/performance at the R&D budget dollars spend due to military industrial complex congress pork politics corruption plus China's greater PPP index and China only has to defend herself so doesn't require arbitrary vague general operational specifications and spending all over the globe. Here we have sour grapes that can't handle the self-evident truth in front of their eyes and have to find imaginary excuses to self feeling good about themselves. Next thing we know they will say they can generate electricity from love along and have democracy tea leaf eggs!

Admiral /Professor Ma Wei Ming disclosed on a TV interview a new propulsion system (bearingless pump drive) for next generation submarine has been developed. He said this new techomology is now being applied (on certain ship), and China is leading US on this perspect.

I think this propulsion is electric propulsion, they are leading the world by at least 10 years, as claimed by this award winner. I don't think he is bragging. It's saying its an integrated electric propulsion system which supplies power to high energy weapons, I guess it's lasers?

He also said the propulsion system already used for next generation nuclear submarine. Damn, this means the next gen submarine is already completed. This guy shouldn't reveal so much.
