075 LHD thread

Did the original rumor state that construction already has started or merely that it would start this year?

it reads: "Construction of 075 HAS started this year! There's chance 054B will started next year."

From this drawing it looks like 2 elevators, one of them with 2 helo capacity, 4 positions for CIWS and 6 takeoff/landing positions. This is going to be a pretty decently-sized LHD/LHA.
The picture says the elevator is at the aft position, just one. 35,000 ton displacement would roughly mean it's smaller than the LHDs/LHAs currently in the USN fleet (about 10,000 ton less, give or take), but larger than other nations' LHD/LHA/LPH.

And when it's completed, it'll be the first through-deck flat-top built by China - sorry CV-17, your ski-jump ramp don't really consider as "carpeted area" (apologies for using real estate term here but can't find the proper word otherwise), the "075" will have such from bow to stern except for the aft elevator.

What is that rectangle aft of the crane, then? It looks like your standard 1 helo elevator.

As I have repeatedly written over in the 002 thread, we should not infer too much from sketches because there if too much room for error, even if it is from big shrimps.

We should primarily consider their words instead.

As for the displacement, you are only half right. The displacement which fzgfzy starts for both the 002 and 075 are standard displacement figures, consistent with pop3s displacement figures.
35000 tons standard displacement will provide a full displacement of over 40000 tons.

This is also consistent with the last few years' of rumours surrounding 075 that it would be a ship similar in displacement to USN LHD/LHAs.

And the sketch (despite being only fit illustrative purposes) does show two elevators, one at the stern and one behind the island/crane. I'm not sure if the descriptor is accurate, it would be rather strange for any LHA/LHD to only have one elevator.

I merely goes with what the handwriting on the pic says, sketch wise is sketchy at this point - however, if it's construction has started by now, think we'll know for sure by coming March or so, which would be by then the flight deck should take shape.

If there's a starboard side elevator, why won't they make it bigger? Sure it'd jutted out, but that's a common practice for LHA anyway.

So like I said, let's wait and see. Besides, something that big is impossible to hide and when comes to shipyard that can build something this size, the list of candidates is very short - it's too large for waterways at Huangpu so that leaves Shanghai and Dailian.

Just to be clear we are expecting a LHD rather than a LHA as it is supposed to have a well deck right?

It's been described as both on various English speaking forums, and I'm not sure if the big shrimps have been too careful in differentiating between them.

But at this point I would expect an LHD rather than an LHA given the Chinese Navy's balance of requirements IMO, but it's still anyone's guess, technically speaking I think (unless I missed a specific post by fzgfzy or pop3 or something, which is very possible)

I feel pretty safe calling them LHDs as POP3 called them

, which is short for 两栖攻击舰, which means amphibious assault ship. Usually, they call LHAs and JMSDF DDHs 直升机航母 which means helicopter carrier.

The LHD/LHA designation has become completely muddled by this point. LHA supposedly does not have well decks, but future America class LHAs will actually have well decks starting with the third ship. Prior LHA classes have also had well decks, such as the Tarawa class. Nor does displacement help distinguish the two classes from each other. It's probably better to call them LHDs at this point since it seems to be more in line with other navies' designations for similar ships, such as the Mistral and Dokdo classes. "LHA" seems to only be used by the USN, and inconsistently at that.
