Today's China Military Review pronouncement about the construction at Changxing Island could be the first "semi-official," type indication that the vessel and structures we see there at Changxing Island are in fact a PLAN LHA.

If so, then the shadows were not playing games on us. Here is what I have come up with to explain what we are seeing.

PLAN Type 75 Construction at Changxing Island Explanation

From this, it is clear to me that the PLAN is constructing its first large LHA Vessel there at Changxing Island, probably in the 35-40,000 ton range. From the photo, it may well be that what we are seeing there in the lower left, could in fact be the second such vessel under construction.

China Military Review is a civilian and definitely NOT an official site. It is 100% an optical illusion.

I understand that China Naval Review is not an official PLAN or CCP site. I also understand that there are shadows and potential optical issues as I stated on my very first post regarding this.

At the same time, in the picture I show marked up, you see the one vessel, fairly far along in construction, with a clear similar section towards the bow as what is observed in the lower left of the picture.

My own personal belief is that the vessel under construction is advanced well towards the bow and that both of those other modules in the lower left which are very similar to the cross section at the bow of the vessel under construction, are in fact for a second such vessel. But that's just my opinion.

It is interesting to note that the two sections in the lower left show one that has a higher cross section for the opening, which could be for the hanger, and that the one further forward has a lower cross sesction, which could be for vehcile storage or some such.

Time will tell.

The Izumo Class LHAs are not small, but at 30,000 tons, they're 1/3 smaller than the America Class and the new China Navy LHAs.

So the J-18 project is still alive and well?

I thought the Yak-36 been sold to the US during the collapsed of the Soviet Union.

Even if the Yak-36 was not being sold to anyone and stay on in Russia... it is a thoroughly outdated design and will not survive any combat... especially against targets with aircrafts carriers. And what is to be learned of from such a design. If the Chinese really wanted to learn Russian's VTOL design, wouldn't it make more sense to go for the Yak 141 which by the way... only 2 are built (while the Yak 36 - only 4 are built).

I would say that report is bs.
