This is actually true for many other LHDs as well. The French Mistral for example, costs around 450 million euros while their FREMM frigate costs around 600 million euros. The US Wasp costs around 1 billion dollars while an Arleigh Burke III costs more than twice as much.

yes and I remember reading that the Type 071 LPD was around $300 million and Type 055 at $1 billion

having said that the Type 075 LHD needs very expensive escorts and running cost are higher due to higher crew

I mean aside from that, the Type 071 appears to cost less than a Type 054A, est. $100 million for Thailand's export model vs. $330 million cost for 054A. For radar it only uses a Type 360S, which is a Jiangwei vintage system, and for self defense, AK630s.

In terms of weapons systems alone, the Type 075 should cost more than a Type 054A. Its radar system is identical to a 054A, plus a new radar model seen on a Chinese Navy ship for the first time. It has two CIWS, plus two HQ-10 missile launchers. The EW and decoy suite is like the 052D's.

He's a retired PLAN general, for anyone that doesn't know him. He worked for PLAN's weapon development for decades before he became a professor at National Defense University and gone viral on TV shows.

He's very popular on social media. However, he knows very well about what can and what cannot be told to the public. His nickname is 局座/战忽局局长 (director of the Strategic Fool-you Agency). He might not be the best source for hardcore military fans (but I sure hope he's serious on this tho).
