Come on guys, it's a great achievement. So we are few aircraft short. Let's not take this away.

I was attracted to this site when I first saw china's first aircraft carrier set sail under her own steam. I was shocked and proud. Because not being a follower of China's military progress back then. I was still under impression that most of China's warships were old vintage Soviet machines that was out of date when the Soviets commissioned it!

So guess my surprise when I saw a few 054. Etc. And now ten years on. Lots of new assets like carriers, 075, 071, 055, 054, 052, 056.

It got me following which is why I'm here. I even went to greet the ships' visit to Portsmouth with other cheering chinese. And it was my first time I ever set aboard a warship, let alone a Chinese one. The 071 big white hill.

So please give credit, and I'm sure China will sort out the deficiency in good time!

Exactly my point ... but in order to use those LHDs properly there must me both helicopters and their units ready and functioning and taht should be prepared some time in advance.
AFAIK there are however none yet ...

I expect these LHDs will operate in a more ad-hoc basis with PLAN and perhaps even PLAA helicopters when required, and that similar to Liaoning, the 075s will be "ships waiting for their airwings" rather than "airwings waiting for their ships".

This isn't entirely out of the norm, as there are other navies with amphibious assault ships who do not have permanent dedicated helicopter units associated with their amphibious assault ships either.

That said I also think that we will see a dedicated PLAMC aviation brigade in time emerge as well, but it probably isn't very high priority right now.

Ka-52K would be the best choice. These are specially built for ships and can carry anti ship missiles.

Army aviation has how many brigades 16? 20?

Rotary wing in Navy has been neglected

And this down to the fact that China doesn’t recognize how important helicopters are in naval aviation

Z18s are going to army and navy is yet to form naval aviation brigades

same reason LCAC is a failed project

empty warships sailing around for years

That is a very strong statement.

None of the 2 Type 75 have gotten the deck painted, so why would one expects to see a helicopter on them. It may even go sea trial without the final paint. Most likely the first Type 75 will get commissioned in 2021. By then, we shall see.

Besides, unlike a fixed wing aircraft carrier, China already has a solid experience base of helicopters landing on frigates, destroyers, Liaoning and Shandong. So there is no skill hurdle for landing and takeoff by helicopters on the LHD.

1 to 2 years is not a very long time to invalidate your statement.

There are 13 Group Armies-there are 13 army aviation brigades. Air Force and Marine each will have few.

my Statement is based on years of following PLAN, I am not new to this

reflection on LHD is based on what I have seen over the last decade

I know every photo, you know more than me? show me one where you have seen 4 x Z8 in the hanger of Type 071 LPD?

whats the maximum number of helicopters seen on the LPD deck and what were they? I know the answer

whats the maximum number of LCAC you have seen in the well deck? were they loaded?

so you understand where I am coming from

so you just build a helicopter and just start flying ? is that how it works, you have not followed CV-16 airwing since 2011?

Russia had over 100 naval helicopters in development for Mistral deal before they were built, China has how many?

the LPD fleet should have been used to train rotary wing pilots over the last 10 years, refuelling, night operations, simultaneous take off , heavy lift VETREP, high wind landing, high sea take off, deck rearming, etc etc

it takes years to train helicopter pilots and even longer to perfect the skills to land a deck of a ship far out at sea in the night in bad weather

these LHD will sail for many many years before they see serious action, many years
