075 LHD thread

Captain
I wonder why Tarawa Class are called LHAs, while Wasp Class are called LHDs, and then America Class are back to LHAs, when every singe one of them apart from LHA-6 and LHA-7 of the America Class has a well deck.
The reason is very simple, USS America does not have a well Dock. Thus the letter "D" is omitted.

The rate of construction is astounding. But it makes sense. They will launch the 1st late 2019 or early 2020 while the 2nd will follow either in 2020 or 2021.
A similar construction rate for the Type-055 also; while the first (DDG-101) was almost finished with construction. Two more were following suit.

Building 2 in a roll shows they are confident and satisfied with the Type-075 design.

The rumour has been that three 075s are ordered as part of the first batch. 075 hull 3 will almost certainly start assembly in the position that 075 hull 1 is currently at, once hull 1 launches.

Looking at how fast hulls 1 and 2 have been progressing, it is not impossible for hull 1 to be launched later this year (October or November), with hull 2 to be launched May/June next year, and hull 3 to be launched late next year or very early 2021.

You have to put yourself in their shows. Surrounded by allies of your main rival; each ally has a formidable Navy and Sub-warfare capabilities. This rate of construction makes sense because the threat is severe and also a strong economy needs a strong Navy to secure trade routes.

I see their strategy as two-folds. 1st, build a strong Naval presence to dominate the first two islands chains and then 2; increase economic ties with US Allies (Japan, SK, Philippines, Australia).
A strong economic ties will lead to improve diplomatic relations with those nations, and improve diplomatic relations will mute the main reason why US has a significant military presence in the region to begin with.

Here is some sizing up, using the features of the shipyard.

Approximate width of second hull is 32 meters. Which may also be very close to waterline width. Perhaps waterline is 31 or so meters.

Width of main deck level of first hull is around 36 meters. Length is harder to deduce as the ship is not complete. The green line for the length is equivalent of 219 meters in length, but there may be more ship added, or more ship underneath the gantry crane.
Forward lift is 18 m long. Rear lift is 14 meters wide, should be enough for two large helicopters to be lifted at once.

How does that compare to some other LHD ships?
US Wasp class is 257 m long. waterline beam is 32 meters. Main deck beam is 38.5 meters. Max displacement is 41 000 tons
French Mistrale is ~200 m long. waterline beam is 32 meters. Main deck beam is 35 meters. Max displacement is 32 000 tons

We don't know figures like height/number of decks nor draft, but using the above figures It would seem the rumors about 35 000 ton displacement were true. The ship may indeed end up displacing around that much.
