Impressive. This will improve their ASW capability operating alongside their carriers (and airlift capability after the enemy's air and Ash-missile threats have been removed).

I feel they might need 2 per fleet especially considering Japan has 4 large ones + 3 small ones; SK has 2, and US with 11. Taiwan plans to build one I think.
Of course it will be foolish to compare numbers to numbers, but with the South China Sea ambition and operating beyond the 2 island chains, they will need 4-6 to ensure effective ASW or their carriers and some critical AAW destroyers will be at extra risks from attack subs.

It is domestic version of S.E.M.T. Pielstick PC2-6B marine engine. It is rated at 12000kw. It is designed to match power plants of Mistral and Izumo.

This engine is NOW produced by "Shanxi Diesel Heavy Industry", the first production unit was delivered in May this year.

I think the model is accurate in depicting 6 engine exhausts. 6*12Mw=72Mw, it is pretty decent for a ship of this size and speed (just above 20 knots)

The model back on page 116 seems to have VLS silos on the port side, fore and aft of the island. The Charles de Gaulle carries 48 Aster 15’s for point defence so it’s possible that the Type 075 will have a similar system. We probably won’t have to wait long to find out!

PLAN elected not to have short range SAM fired from VLS, otherwise they would have navalized the HQ-17, which can shoot straight up from a tank like vehicle. If they did so that would be like the Chinese version of the Kinzhal, that's used on the Udaloy class destroyers.




Instead the PLAN has chosen bet on the HQ-10 for all its short range missile needs. Not going to discuss HQ-10 vs. HQ-17 here. Just to say they didn't go with the potential naval HQ-17 route, which the Russians did with their Tor-M1 to Quizhal.

I would expect the HQ-10 to be set up like this.

The elevators are different and the original has two VLS on the port side, not only one. May be, the drawing is from an early design that was later changed.

not sure what you want to say by relating to that discussion linked above, which is about your suggestion of diesel engine for Chinese CV. Without going into details, my take is that for a CV, diesel engine is out of question.

For any other ships, diesel is a good option for cruising at a relative slow speed for its economical advantage over any turbine based engines (gas or steam) when IEPS is not in place. That is why it is a good choice for 075.

P.S. combined with IEPS, diesel would loose its advantage to a small GT running at full load.

Edit: if your purpose is to point out the "Shanghai Marine", then yes, it is the same company I am talking here. However, the engine is not based on MAN but French SEMT.
