re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft

its seems like China has totaly streamlined production of Type 054As, Typpe 052Cs and Type 071 LPD, as soon as one hits the water another is being readied behind it

it was always thought that China would build 3 LPDs and then LHDs, but this clearly now isnt the case, I think they will continue construction of LPDs for years to come, they will only get more efficient and effective and quicker at getting these into launch, a matter of time before a 5th is confirmed lol

LHD would be useful only when you've a large contingent of rotor-wing asset, and PLAN have yet fully exploit the merit that LPD brings yet...

So another LPD goes to South Sea Fleet...think we can see a direction of priority here.

No really, what good would LDPs be in the North or East Sea fleets? China has no plans to invade Russia, Japan or America despite what the sinophobe nut jobs might say.

China's power projection build up is aimed at the middle east and Africa mainly, as these are becoming increasingly important to China as trade, investment and the flow of Chinese nationals increase massively over the years.

The South Sea fleet is increasingly looking beyond the South China Sea, and thee LPDs have nothing to do with the island disputes down there.

While having no plans to invade Russia, Japan or America, China does intend to invade the Middle East and Africa?

This depends on whether the North or East Sea fleets will be given the same responsibilities. If all three fleets rotate the role of deployment abroad, then it makes sense all three fleets be grown with the same capabilities. If only the South Sea fleet gets this responsibility, perhaps there will be a time when a name change is appropriate as deployments to places like Africa isn't really the South Sea.

You forgot Taiwan...still remember back in the day everybody believed the advent of 071 LPD+LCAC will change the game rules in the "Taiwan scenario"? However, most of the islands in the South China Sea are not accessible via LCAC - they are mostly merely big rocks jutted out of the water and have man-made structures serves as landmarks and outposts. Still, 071 LPD's helicopter operating capability aids when comes to heliborne vertical insertion assault, though everybody have modest AAA that can be a problem unless they bring a contingent of attack helicopters to soften them up.

With the South Sea Fleet from being the neglected (PLAN was being "North-Heavy" for a long time) to this day being decked out with the best domestically made systems, it speaks volume to the change of focus with the Chinese strategy planners; also, compare amongst all 3 fleets, only the South Sea Fleet enjoys the most un-blockadeable location...
