071 LPD thread

This is actually quite significant, as those screenshots came from the news report that says 071 will be sent to Gulf of Aden. As you can see, the 071 will do what many say is impossible; it will act as a mothership to those boats and LCAC in the bluewater.

Those smaller crafts would seem to provide a good platform when intercepting and boarding skiffs. Better than the zodiacs being used.

Interesting news clip.

Chinese official media at work. Very patriotic reporting.

Useful to note that carbine firing was featured in the news clip. That's the international weapon of choice for armed personnel boarding other ships.

Also, the deployment of the 071 in an operational mission so far away for such a long duration is surely meant to test the design of the platform and gain experience on how to improve upon it for future, more capable designs. This will go down as another ground-breaking deployment for the PLAN (or, as shown in the news clip, China Navy).

Could someone tell me which part of China does the official come from? I mean the first one who spoke with a strange accent.

Thanks

Excellent points..I agree that the deployment of the 071 to the Gulf of Aden is a test bed for future ships and deployments.

As an old USN sailor I must say that the pictures of the material condition of the 071 was outstanding. I can't remember if it was the 071 but when the ships were doing an RAS/UNREP everything looked way to clean. Toooo clean in fact:rolleyes:. As if the equipment had been used very little. I'm sure the CO and XO on those ships make sure they are in pristine condition when the cameras are rolling. Most navies do the same thing.

Nice picture A-Mace..I like the detail of most anything Naval..I hope the ship is deployed with a full complement of helos and small boats. If they do take the ship to the Gulf of Aden those fast smaller boats will be needed.

I really like this photo and hope it's actually real rather than a fanboy CG.

If it's real, then it would seem they have enough space for 4 Z-8s in the hangar if needed be. And also, LCAC looks larger than I thought.

Well, they are bringing 2 Z-8s plus 2 Z-9s to Gulf of Aden. Assuming one Z-9 is being carried by 170, that means there are three helicopters on the 071, which must mean 071's hangar is large enough to hold more than two Z-8s. Also considering the fact that the tail of Z-8 can be folded, I think 4 Z-8s is pretty realistic.

By the sounds of things, the new LCAC is being sent as well... WHY? An LCAC wouldn't be useful in boarding operations or intercepting skiffs right?
Or is it just being sent for trials?
...Or am I completely off base and it's not going to aden at all??
