That is fast. And is that a type 054A to the far right? What about the other ship with the funny satellite dish like thing?

Wow just wow! Very good to see the 4th Type 071 LPD this will add a serious capability to the PLAN for amphibious operations

Also yes on the right is the Type 054A clearly tell by the hanger and cut out openings for the windows for rear deck operations to the right of the hanger not to mention the top mast

What's next to it? Most likely the C28A for Algeria yes the mast looks very similar but can't see a hanger for it but that might be because of the poor resolution

Either way a great picture and plenty of action there

And on the right, ELINT / SIGINT vessel Type 815G and maybe 2nd C28A for Algeria

I concur with your assesment. It's the 4th 071 LPD, the 3rd Type 815G ELINT and the furthest one to the right is the 2nd C-28A for the Algerian Navy.

What's also important is that the C-28 is build in accordance to Lyod's Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Naval Ships.

What this tells me is China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) is ready to play with the big boys.

I heard that they are going to build a total of six.

Anyone know if that is so?

No confirmation yet, but it sounds logical. Restarting production for only one hull seems a bit strange, and second batch of three seems like a nice rounded number

No question about it if there is a 4th there must be a 5th and the pattern will follow

I wonder if they will introduce any changes to the platform and make any improvements they have found from operations

All 3 x LPD have now been on long haul anti piracy missions so they have certainly learn a lot about this platform

Even at 6 x LPD that's a serious force for amphibious missions but ideally they could do with 9 units 3 for each fleet along with a LHA/LHD to form a expeditionary force for each fleet

Or they could build a ARG for ESF and SSF I guess NSF does not need such a capability but then again fleets are no longer isolated flotillas all share missions and vessels

Things are heating up Type 071, Zubr Class and Z-10 on maritime role

They need a general transport/air assault version of the Z-18 imo. They've developed it into good AEW, ASW, and VIP variants, they should now develop a general transport.

It has good payload and internal volume, and with the modern construction methods, avionics, and cockpit, they can definitely do a good makeover of the original super frelon. Also they should look to stick two or three GPMGs for the ramp and sides, along with the usual suite of counter measures, radar, FLIR, etc. I'm sure it would be a hit on the export market too, and give performance in the merlin class.

IMO, there are two obvious things the PLAN needs for the Type 071 LPDs.

1) The need to perfect and then build enough of the Chinese LCAC to equip these vessels.
2) They need the gneral Air Assault/Transport version of the Z-18 as Bltz said.
