071 LPD thread

Once again Type 071 LPD has thrown a surprise

See that frontal main gun on the right so the entrance for the vehicles is quite towards the front of the ship

The only opening at the front is the one which I thought was for the RHIB I was mistaken there is another opening which leads to the compartment which lies infront of the well deck as a matter of fact there is two compartments infront of the well deck one above each other see below

This means vehicles can go in from the side and reach the lower and upper compartment as well as the well deck interesting very interesting it's just a shame they can't reach the upper flat top rear deck where the helo lands that would be good
IIRC there are already photos of vehicles loading at this location circulating on the internet. There's really going to be no other use for a door at this location except for loading and offloading vehicles to/from the vehicle decks. You need something like this to bypass the well deck (for example if it is already loaded with hovercraft or vehicles), and for rapid egress during an assault as these doors will be used to dump those hydroplaning IFV's straight into the water at the same time as other vehicles or hovercraft are deploying from the main well deck doors.

We know China deployed all 3 Type 071 all at the same time just a few weeks ago here is a picture of two of them

Shows the logistics and operational requirements are getting better

Was this for the flight MH370 search in the Indian Ocean?
No.

This was a specific Island Assault exercise held in the South China Sea during the 1st week of May.

For the first time, all of the PLA Navy’s Type 071 Amphibious Transport Dock vessels were deployed in a large naval exercise in the tense South China Sea, simulating in full an island-taking assault.

Also participating in the drill were PLAN’s destroyers, frigates, military helicopters and possibly submarines.

The Yuzhao-class Type 071 amphibious transport dock ships are the PLAN’s largest vessels, except for its lone aircraft carrier, the Liaoning.

With 20,000-ton displacement, each measures 689 feet long and 92 feet wide.

It can carry 15-20 amphibious assault vehicles and 500-800 troops, an ideal vessel for island taking operations.

I would like to see some serious pictures of this landing I mean some serious pictures

Bet they used all assets to do this assault would be great to see them we can see two more landing craft behind the two LPD in the picture I posted some serious men and equipment

I would be curious if the PLAN used any LCACs, if they've even built enough to fully load the 3 Type 071s with them. It would also be interesting to see if they integrated air support into the exercise, both land based and ship based aircraft. Since the picture came out of the Z-10 hovering over a ship helo landing pad I also wonder if they tried operating any off of the 071s rather than only Z-8s, or any other helo type for that matter.

LCAC? Probably not, and if so, with only one or two total.

They have at most two or three of their LCACs operational I believe.

Air support? I believe most definitely. They have practiced/exercised with it before.

As of now we have only three x Type 726 LCAC that's 3320 the original unit and two more 3321 and 3322

Now unless they have more of which I have seen no pictures that's still not enough to load out a Type 071 LPD what it means is actually there is one LCAC per LPD

Two 726 type LCACs (3320 and 3321) appear in one picture.

GREAT pic! and probably from the recent exercises.

There's your pic folks, and Asif, they did use at least two. My guess is that was it. If they had three there, they would have gotten a PR pic of all three. But this is the first time I have seen more than one used together in an exercises.

I am copying these LCAC posts over to the PLAN LCAC thread too.
