I believe you are indeed correct that the inner mounts have fuel tanks on them.

But the outer mounts seem to have rocket launchers(?) mounted.

Two Chinese LPD were concerned in the search for MH 370. Is this one of them or are all three now travelling abroad?

I believe all three are currently deployed, yes.

I'm sure this is the final nail in the coffin for demonstrating to the PLAN the benefits of having multiple large multirole warships available.

More LPDs and eventually LHD/As are inevitable. I anticipate impending new construction of new amphibious assault ships within the next year or two at most.

LPD 998 and 999 are in South Indian Ocean searhing for the lost plane, and 989 is in Indonesia participating a joint navy exercise. So all 3 LPDs are being deployed at this moment.

It'd be nice to have a group shot of all 3 of them in formation for the Mh370 search.

Yes all three LPD are deployed aboard and so are 3 out of the 4 Type 903 replenishment tankers

Shows the state of readiness the PLAN has and the ability to get large surface ships out and about on short notice

Quick turn around fast and efficient deployments is a trait of a good navy

Very good that China is now pushing for over seas deployments for extended periods

Really I believe China needs a flotilla made up of 3 x LPD and 1 x LHD in each fleet so 9 x LPD and 3 x LHD as well as a carrier for each fleet
