Take any thing reported by Infowars with a grain of salt IMHO. They are prone to the wildest conspiracy theories.

I'd wait until a more credible source confirms this...I just do not see the PLAN doing this.

Yes. But Hilter is probably still alive and plotting for the third world war so that he can take over the entire world

Anyway, it sure would be interesting to see (if the news is true) that China sent a LPD to Syria... We all know that LPD are not actually very well armed and against destroyers and frigates, it is just a sitting duck (unless I am missing something). So I believe even if China had sent the LPD, what mission China actually had for that LPD - Humanitarian? Or just a transport to ship the Chinese citizens that are in Syria now out of the country if a war actually broke out? Or even to carry Chinese troops to that area so that if war broke out, the troops would be in Syria to protect Chinese interest?

Tell that to those rotting bone fragments the Russians kept. The Germans burned his body and buried the remains while they retreated after Hitler and Braun committed suicide.

The Russians dug it up a day or two later as they advanced when a Russian private noticed the upturned earth. They moved the body several times until in 1970 a KGB officer ordered the remains burnt to ashes, which they did and spread those ashes to the wind. A skull and jawbone fragment were kept by the USSR...but a DNA test after the fall of the USSR showed they were the remains of a woman, probably Braun, though Russian officials do not accept those results.

If the chinese were to wish to have a naval presence near syria, what other ships would be better? Destroyers and frigates can't do anything except make port calls in other countries in the area and be generally ignored. Sending a LPD to land equipment for building refugee camps or to use troop capacity to evacuate refugees would be a good political tactic for china to use to contrast itself with the US. I think Russians would probably try something similar.

DDG and FFG are only good for port calls?? that is exactly what they need to send if they want to make overseas visits, sending a LPD is a massive waste of resources, those ships do not have air defence and need escorts, its like sending in a tank division without attack helo cover

LPD job is one, that is to send forces ashore from the sea, amphibious assult

In any peaceful attempt to establish presence in the Syrian crisis, destroyers and frigates wouldn't be able to do anything other than cruise impotently off shore while the US bomb Syria.

It would be far better to be able to land in Syria and deliver something to impress the Syrians without making the US think china is bringing AAW firepower to screw with the US in Syria.

The 052Ds are rumored to have LACMs and can affect land targets. However, it will be a while before they're available for service.

In the current Syrian crisis, it isn't the chinese who are considering land attack. Unless the Chinese suddenly switched sides and decided to join the US in bombing Syria (The US is not likely to welcome this turn of events as it would steal Obama's thunder in the backyard of the west), having LACMs on Chinese destroyers won't give the presence of Chinese destroyers in the region any more significance in the context of the current crisis.

LPD allows the Chinese to show the flag in an effective way without too openly antagonizing the US. Short of sending a tear jerking naval hospital ship, LPD is really the only naval asset China could send that could achieve some degree of favorable diplomatic and PR impact for the Chinese.

It's important to know that the Chinese are sending ships not to fight a conflict but to put forth its preferred reputation. Sending a LPD achieves that without stirring up any suspicious response from the US.

What makes you think Chinese warships in the Med would have any intentions of getting involved in Syria in any direct way? China is not heavily invested or committed to Syria, and it makes little difference to China what ultimately happens to Assad. China will object to US military action out of principle because its against international law and norms, and will side with Russia to show support and solidarity, but China doesn't care about Syria remotely enough to want to get involved in this mess.

The primary mission of any Chinese naval assets near Syria would be to pass the popcorn and watch the fireworks. They will closely monitor US naval and air movements, tactics, SOPs and scoop up as much emissions and signals as possible for analysis back home. For that task, a FFG or DDG would be far more suitable that an LPD because of the better sensor package they will be packing, and also because they will have a far better self-defence capability than the 999, which only has a single layer of gun based CISW defence, just in case a rogue missile locks onto it by mistake.

An LPD is a capital ship, and the PLAN is unlikely to send one unescorted in even routine training missions outside of Chinese waters, never mind into an almost certain active combat zone. If the 999 is going, than at least one 054A is also tagging along as escort.
