He's implying westwards. But he doesn't appreciate the fact that copying is always the first step the Chinese take in order to exceed. It is a temporary step. So their ultimate heading is eastwards and inwards.

That's not what he is saying. Why does everything have to be China vs west for you?
He is clearly saying for CIWS, next generation CIWS will either be gun only or missile only rather than gun/missile combo like Kashtan.
The problem with Kashtan is that even though it is an interesting concept, it was never able to outperform Type 730 CIWS in the field. Going forward, the next gen of Chinese CIWS looks to be Type 1130 and HQ-10.

Obviously I don't have actual results for these things plawolf, you should know by now it's not public.
This is what I hear from the couple of guys that have long talked about naval CIWS development on Chinese bbs. Take it for what you will, it certain corroborates with PLAN's actions. They certainly liked other Russian CIWS like AK-176 and AK-630 enough to license produce them, but that was never the case with Kashtan.

I would think a big part of the reason the Kashtan is not favored is because with all its weaponry it can still only engage one target at a time while HQ-10 can engage as many targets as it has time to fire on, and 730 is far cheaper and probably more cost-effective.

i wonder which compartment they are playing the table tennis in? if that is the helicopter hanger then that is massive and much bigger that i thought!
but as a second thought it looks like the very front compartment and not the hanger hall because it get narrower

Good eye there Asif, it's definitely not a double height space, so therefore not a hangar space. It looks to be part of the exercise compartment of the ship, one can see the treadmills on the opposite end of the wall.
