re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft
A few years ago Warship magazine had a article on Yuzhao class
From what I remember the rear deck of the LPD has a length of 68 metres I think I am sure of this since I remembered it from a event that happened in 1968, not that I was around then I'm from 1980s lol
Anyhow if it is 68 metres long that's a very big deck, I wonder why China designed it so large, only reason would be so it could handle more than 2 helos
And for the hanger inside it was 2/3 of the length of the rear deck, which I recall was stated at 45 metres in length
We have seen pictures of hanger with both door opens and if you brighten up the photo you can see the end wall if anyone has one of those softwares where you can calculate distances from photos then someone can confirm these numbers, and check size of Z8, but I'm sure they are correct
But I don't think it's standard PLAN procedures to carry 4 x Z8, they always carry only 2, but if the need arises they could carry 4
However I don't think it can have 4 on the deck all at the same time with engines and rotors on, there is not enough space for that, only San Antonio can have 4 X CH 46 ready with rotors spinning on the deck all simultanously with only 1 metre to spare between the spinning rotor blades, in that sense Type 071 lacks simultaneous lift capability of 4 helos hence only 2 painted landing spots on the deck but that is more to do with helo than the ship
