The surface naval force of the Chinese Navy keeps sharpening its real-combat skills in the far sea, aiming to fill in a more confident and comprehensive role. A far sea training fleet under the Southern Theater Command, composed of a Type 054A frigate Liuzhou, two 056A corvettes and a Type 903 replenishment ship Weishanhu, has sailed off to the Celebes Sea in west Pacific via the South China Sea and across the equator.
Their mission was to conduct more than 20 real combat-oriented exercises. "In this far-sea training, we adopted multiple measures such as simulated emergency missions, multiple coherent subjects and improvisational battles without scripts, to explore the far-sea training methods of multi-type fleets. The target is to sharpen the training level of the fleet under real-combat circumstances," said Senior Captain Ding Xinmin, commander of the far sea training formation of the Chinese Navy under the Souther Theater Command. With batches of new equipment especially larger ships going into service, the Chinese Navy has been focusing on far sea trainings. A fleet, comprised of a Type 052D destroyer Taiyuan, two Sovremenny-class destroyers Hangzhou and Fuzhou, and a frigate Zhoushan, sailed days and nights and arrived the assigned water area on time.
As the battle alert suddenly rang, soldiers on board rushed to their battle positions and stood by to an emergent enemy threat appearing both in air and under water. "We adhered to the goal of meeting the demand of real combats and staying competent for joint operations, made our preparations in order to win tough wars and strengthen joint command capability. We strive to let our troops more integrated into joint operation system, and hone them in actual combat-oriented contexts," said Captain Shi Lei, captain of destroyer Taiyuan. Cool minor info. This means that 137 Fuzhou, the second Sovremenny destroyer to have a major refit, is confirmed to be back in service.
Type 056 firing YJ-83J missile.
What is the YJ-83J? I never heard of that variant. By the way, do we even have concrete info about the JY-83? The claims for its range and seeker are very varied.

Yes. It will be exported with domestic radar as well.
The success of the 056 in exports to Bangladesh, Nigeria and Algeria shows that it is really a good cheap, balanced option. It's not loaded to the top with missiles but has a good bit of everything.
However I'm of the opinion that the PLA should stop building ships of this weight class altogether. They're really not that survivable in a conflict with the USN. Minimum size should be around the 054A
