I actually don't know, but where should it be on this ship?
Here's a GREAT shot of it in MwRYum's photos from his visit to the 056 open house in Hong Kong:

You can see them both in this pic.

Hat's off to MwRYum! Way to go!

You'd see them in my picture collection I posted earlier, those 2 HMG mounts on the forward deck, aft of the main gun and just forward of the superstructure, one each at starboard and port,

Thanks for the pointer, did not even noticed it at first pass. Looks like the Wiki article could use an update.

Those aren't from Army aviation branch, those are air force helicopters - PLA HK garrison's aviation assets are all provided by the air force.

That's how it is and will be unless in the future the HK garrison - a largely symbolic presence - in the future is further expanded with naval aviation providing rotary wing assets, as well as the army aviation units provide detachment units in the garrison force as well.

But as we all know the mandates of the HK and Macau garrisons doesn't have mission profiles envision requirements for such full-rounded forces.

Pity though, that also means we won't be seeing WZ-10 or Z-19 in HK, unless the PLA wants to show off by calling in regiments equipping those pay a visit for some occasion...

The Replacements For 037's

THAT is a GREAT picture!

So, how many have been launched now, I have lost track?

They are building them very fast, and I have to imagine that they are running crews from older vessels and new recruits through training rapidly to keep up.

I wonder if these vessels are being built to a 20-25 service life standard, or 30-35 year? It would be interesting to know.

30-35 year would make more sense, since PLAN probably will keep them for that long regardless. The 037s, 051s and 053H/H1s are kept for that long, and they aren't well built either..

If they aren't that well built how come they last that long . Isn't that contradictory. It show your bias

Perhaps a more precise description is that the older vessels are less well built than the 056s given the gains in manufacturing techniques acquired by China over the past two decades. Even then, those older vessels lasted 30-35 years so it's within reason to expect the same of the 056s.

It should be under a different yardstick because the PLAN was stuck with those old rust buckets for a long time due to a whole set of reasons, principally the lack of funding and deficiency of technological capabilities suffered by the Chinese military-industrial complex till after the turn of millennium. It wasn't until the mid-2000s that both of those problems are largely alleviated and the PLAN began to receive proper and modern vessels of all classes it badly needed.

Still, unless there's a radical advancements in nautical technology and designs, with proper upgrades and even minor add-ons, the 056 will remain as a potent platform for its role, probably for the next 30 years to come...or maybe 20 years with the PLAN, then refurbished and sold 2nd-hand to 3rd World navies.
