And I shall name him 'mini-me'!

This beautiful vessel really grows on you - the more I look at it, the more I like it. It could certainly be a great platform for a heavily armed Coast Guard cutter as well, by removing its ASW systems and it's ASuW missiles, and adding a hello hanger for a Z9.

GREAT pic!

056 with 037-the boat yet to be replaced

In the future, will the place host 4 056's or 2 056's with 2 037's or 1 056 with 2 037's?

That is another great pic A.Man!

Ultimately there will be no 037s. Whether it is two 056s or four 056s will depend on the needs of that particular group and their patrol areas and zones. I do not know if they plan a one for one replacement.

That shows the size and firepower improvement brought by the 056.

No, the 056 is the replacement of those obsolete 037s, warships types smaller than the 056 will be 037-II and 022.

PLAN needs ships at least in the size and displacement of 056 to have the endurance and firepower to carry out missions into the South China Sea, 037 could only stick close to shores.

Those pictures are from Shenjia Navy Yard, Shanghai. In the background LUDA class 131 and YANLAI class Dong Ce 226, which officially have been turned over to CMS/China Coast Guard.

They do not seem to be doing anything to this pair. The same goes for LUDA class 162 and QIONGSHA class Nan Yun 830 at Huangpu Shipyard, which are also just sitting there.

584 is probably just at Shenjia to get defects noted during sea trials corrected, no reason to go back up-river to the builder, Wuhan, for that.

The pictures of 583 at Xiamen indicate that the four old 037 ’s there have already been retired, leaving just the two 037 IS 712 and 713 in service.

I certainly think that the eight subchaser squadrons that are receiving one 056 each will in due course have four each, like the Hong Kong squadron.

It has been announced that the 1st public debut of the 056 corvette will be on the 1st July, Stonecutter Island open house event.

Since the 056 will be the star of the show, I hope I can get the ticket for that day in the coming Sunday...

wouldn't it be really cool if they fill 056 up with visitors and then go out on a patrol cruise doing a full lap around the waters of hong kong? instead of the old 'come aboard a parked ship' thing every year.

The 056 is a warship, not a cruise liner. Civilians have no place on a warship when it is underway. No navy anywhere does what you suggest, for good reason.

The ship's crew all have duties and responsibilities when the ship is underway, and there would be few crew that could be spared to babysit a bunch of overexcited civilians. In addition a warship will not have the facilities onboard to accommodate large numbers of civilians. Spending half an hour or an hour on a tour is one thing, but those people will have basic needs that have to be met if they are stuck on a ship for hours on end while it does a lap around HK, even the most basic things like lavatories could become a problem if you have several times the number of people the ship was designed to support onboard and limited to non-restricted parts of the ship.

Even if you stuff the 056 to the gills, you will only be able to take a tiny fraction of the number of people out on a joyride as the number of people who could come onboard and have a look in a traditional open house tour.

Sure, if would be amazing to be picked for a joyride on an 056, but it makes no sense for the PLAN to do that, and ultimately, the vast majority of the people would be left disappointed as only a tiny fraction would be able to get places even if a joyride was on the cards.

Overall, it is better for the vast majority of people who wish to see the ship that they just hold a regular open house.

The only time civilians might get a ride on an 056 is if they were being rescued from either damaged ships, the sea, or a nearby foreign country in the throws of massive civil unrest. As cool as a ride on an 056 would be, I don't think you would really want to be in a position to need a ride off one in the first place.

It's happened before but given the outcome, I think all the more reason it won't happen again. USS Greeneville and Ehime Maru come to my mind.

Thing is, this announcement was made on those pro-Beijing newspapers that almost nobody bothered to buy or read, that said only military buffs like us appreciate the significance.

As usual there will be those pensioners and minors go there, and definitely tickets reserved for state-owned enterprises' staff and their dependents....but of course they couldn't tell the significance, almost every year there's something new on display but almost none take notice, like last time when QBZ-95-1 made its debut nobody notice but me...

Also, I hope this time they'll display the whole get-up of the QBZ-95-1 weapon system
