they will replace some of the jianghu, but all the flotilla they are forming right now are old 037 flotillas.

Nice work lets get wiki updated now, a better and more modern article on wiki for Chinese submarines would also be good the current one is crap, plus a update on all the submarine bases added too with all the Flotillas

btw 'Asif'....have you seen that someone has removed the non-existent 4th type 071 ship from 'wiki'...........i wonder who did that? ;)

Very inconclusive…

With 40 Type 056 joining the 50 frigates currently in service, pennant numbers in the 501-599 range are becoming scarce, so they have to recycle those of decommissioned Type 053H’s.

In destroyer flotillas, Type 053H is replaced by Type 054A.

In second-line frigate squadrons, 053H is replaced by Type 053H2G/053H3 replaced in destroyer flotillas by Type 054A.

So it is Type 037 that is being replaced by 056. There are in fact about 48 Type 037 in service now in the eleven subchaser squadrons (some might already have decommissioned, though), not counting the modernised 037 ID and the newer 037 IS.

As for Jeff Head’s list, Hull 11 is launching from Huangpu now (HP 4). I think it is too difficult to forecast who will build individual units, but it looks as if Huangpu and Zhonghua will each build six and Lushun and Wuhan each four.

Thanks for the details on the flotilla rearrangement, that does change my perception. Though I am curious why they opted not to reuse the 700 series numbers?

I originally expected, too, that they would use the 600-700 number blocks for Type 056. But since they are categorised light frigates (a fact that has long been known), they obviously belong in the 500 block.

In the near term, Type 037IG and 037 II missile ships and 037 IS subchasers will remain in service, using 48 pennant numbers in the 612-789 range.

I only edited 2 articles on the PLAN, the Jianghu class and the Type 054A i turned the numbers of active ships from 15 back to 14 and change 550 Weifang's status from active to being on sea trial. :eek:

Talking about Wikipedia perhabs someone here can take a look at the air force article the numbers they have on their inventory list are largely fictitious, the numbers of Chengdu J-7's jumped from 350 in 2011 to 389 today! Perhabs Deino can do that using his own book as a source. :p

The PLAN currently has 43 frigates and 23 destroyers making the total fleet size of DDG's and FFG's in the PLAN to 66. Earlier in the year it was still 68, but this year so far they have decommissioned 4 Jianghu's and only commissioned 1 Type 052C and 1 Type 054A. I don't know if this reduction in the fleet size is permanent or temporary. We will have atleast 3 new ships that's going to be commissioned later this year.
