Few nations have sent submarines on this missions too, might be a idea for China to think about sending a modern SSK at some point

How would a submarine be practical in anti-piracy missions? No helicopters, no surface mounted weapons like machine guns and no RHIBs. I can't think of a scenario where a submarine would be better than a surface combatant in anti-piracy missions.

It's the hidden hunter, the unexpected visitor, used for intelligence gathering, reconnaissance, surveillance and relying this information to surface vessels, the whole point is it works with other vessels and not on it's own

Thanks for the names of 583 and 584. I thought SHANGRAO would be 587 from Huangpu.

Several of the East Sea Fleet 056’s will be named after cities in Jiangxi, 583 GANZHOU, 584 SHANGRAO and 586 JI’AN (why is the name of 585 not known?).

I wonder if 053H2G 539 is having the old 100 mm shield replaced by a Type 99 turret at Shenjia Navy Yard (it is the only of the four that has not yet been modernised).

Such an interesting picture.

It really gives one an idea of the small size of the Type 056 frigate.

So much smaller than the Jiangwei 1 frigate alongside.

Seems to be not even half the size of the other frigate.

This class will clearly become the economical patrol craft of the PLAN.

because WC is taking such a long time building its 056s and HD ones are the most visible.

What's wrong with 596 its now almost a year since her launch and she is not commissioned yet. And does anyone know about any Type 037's being decommissioned ?

Yes, there doesn't appear to be a pattern to when the 056's will be commissioned..........ie normally they should all be built to a similar timeframe, and commissioned accordingly..........but its anyone's guess with the type 056 which one is going to join the active fleet next!............i know several yards are building them but nontheless..........!

I am not sure that Wuhan is particularly slow at building Type 056. There was a picture 1 May of 585 going down the Yangzi, that is less than two months after 584. They were also launched with a two-month interval in August and October 2012, so fitting out took 6-7 months.

Hull 1 582 from Hudong-Zhonghua fitted out for nine months, and so did Hull 4 580 from Lushun.

As to 596, I think that it is likely as MwRYum suggested: They have some auspicious date in mind when 596 and 597 will make their solemn arrival at Hong Kong.

I think we need to start compiling a list, like we did with the Type 054A of all of the builds, where they were built, date laid down, datel launched, date commissioned, Pennant number, and the fleet they are joining.

This is a really large project with the PLAN and is going to have an impact for the next several decades.
