I always believe the gun has 2 mode. Full auto mode and manual mode. Since this is littoral warfare ships. Encountering pirate boats or high speed attack craft are some of imminent threat. It is important the human operator must be visually around to ID to call to fire or not upon the close range threat. This is something a remote or full auto machine is not able to do it. And also, if the remote sensor is malfunctioning. Human operator can quickly step in and manual operate this gun to fire it.. The clip of showing the human operator sitting in that gun is more or less a PR stunt.. Just like J-11B must always show firing rocket pod for PR clip despite capable of dropping more advance and precision ammo.
Agreed, if it got an optic ball turret then it can be used either operated remotely or manned. Still, it's a quantum leap from the manpower-heavy cannons in the old day...those things got only iron sight, need a 4-man crew, manual feeding 5-round clips, and a beast to operate because that thing is not motorized.
We can wait for this unit to station in HK garrison and have a open house to comfirm its full function.
If I didn't volunteered for this, consider I'm drafted...
