I will answering this (and other) discussions about the US Littoral Combat Ship over on the Littoral Combat Ship thread where the discussion probably belongs.

MOD SUGGESTION: (Tphuang, bd popeye, T_U_P, etc) You may want to consider moving all of this LCS talk that has been going on for the past several days on this Type 065 thread, over to the LCS Thread.

Drive back to 056, do you think any other missioned 056 might be in the works. From the look of it, a ASW platform seems to be in reach. (After all 037 is a ASW vessel) Though modifying 053H3 might be more cost effective.

-Helo hanger
-CY-1 or other ASROC replacing YJ-83
-Beefier Bow Sonar
-TAS

Now that China is building coast guard cutters full speed and the five competing arms of the CMS has been merged in to one single structure. Does China still need a platform like this ? The coast guard cutters can patrol the disputed area's and if things really heats up they can call in the big guns.

Most of their CG cutters are inferior to neighboring competitions in terms of size and endurance, so it's a good investment to upgrade, because it's god-knows-when that Chinese Coast Guard needs to go ship-bumping again with the Japanese...

What neighbours?

China don't ship bump anyone, it's the Japanese that do that. I guess your anti-China bias won't allow you to see that. Carry on mate.

Coast Guard ships are unarmed, unlike the Americans and Russian. Unless China start to arming them, these coastal vessel still has a need. Beside the big guns will have bigger and better things to do, especially with the carrier and all, they will be staying on call for the cutters.
