Is it just me or do these new Type 056 corvettes look dirty and haggard ?

The new Type 056 will replace the old Type 037 in the PLAN. Do anyone know how many there are in the PLAN ? According to wikipedia which is not a very reliable source there are about 150 Type 037 in service with the PLAN. And what is the role of the Type 037 in the PLAN today ? And how would the Type 056 change Chinese littoral operations ?

Type 037 are many versions IG, II.... Little Corvettes about 500 t.

Most importants for combat :
Houxin T037-IG *24 with 4 anti-ship missiles

Normaly Type 056 replaces first the 4 Houjian of Squadron Honk-Kong/SSF and also later Frigate Jianghu Type 053, 20 in service.

Very dificult with Chinese armement because there are a lot of versions !

There are 4 sub classes of the Type 037 Hainan/Houjian/Houxin/Haiqing missile boats. There are about 150 of them in total and the multi role Type 056 corvettes are going to replace them all. They are between 440 tons to 520 tons depending on the sub class. What i want to know is how does this transition affect littoral strategy and operations of the PLAN ?

There are still 17 Type 053 Jianghu class frigates and 10 Type 051 Luda class destroyers active in the PLAN today. These will probably all be replaced with Type 054A, Type 052C, Type 052D and future classes of frigates and destroyers. I don't think that the Type 056 will be replacing any Type 053 Jianghu's as i believe that the capabilities of the Type 056 is infurior compared to the Type 053 Jianghu in terms of firepower, but they are certainly better electronically in terms of radar and sensors.

as far i know, 037 name covers so many subvariants built over such a long period of time that newer 037 replaced quite a bit of older 037. some were donated or sold abroad, quite a few were scrapped etc. i don't think there are 150 of those ships in service today. I think it is quite possible no original 037 exist in service anymore. ships due for replacement are likely 037-I subchasers (4 units), 037-IS subchaser (20 units), 037-IG FAC (12-18 units in service) and 037-II (5-6 units in service)

All in all, i don't believe there is over 50 ships in service with PLAN and there may be as few as 40.

I have to disagree with the statement regarding firepower. The age of the weapon systems on the Jianghus nullify any numerical superiority over the 056's weapon systems. The only exception would be the missiles on the last Jianghu III and the upgraded missiles on the Jianghu Vs. But there's still a few Jianghu Is and IIs that can be replaced by the 056.

056 is primarily a 037 replacement, but to say its firepower is inferior to Jianghu is completely false unless you are talking about the last six 053H1G and the three 053H2 after upgrade. The most popular Jianghu, the 053H, only has two single barrel 100mm gun and four SY1 missiles, 053H1 has two twin barrel 100mm guns added but all versions except H1G and H2 only had four SSMs. 056 has the same number of SSMs but with much much greater range and capabilities, the 76mm gun and the two 30mm remote guns are much more accurate and have higher ROF than Jianghu's. This is not counting capabilities Jianghus never had, such as eight round HQ10 SAM, two triple torpedo launchers, and helicopter landing pad.

Has there been any more launches of Type 056 recently? Is it sill half dozen launches

This year's Chunyun period will begin on the 26th of this month and ends on the 6th of March, that means if they don't launch within the next 19 days, we all can take a break till mid March because majority of the Chinese working population won't be at their working cities during those times.

Great ! If you can send me your OOB, it' s very nice.
For armament i read many sites/books and i am not see ASW armament : torpedo or rocket launcher, in more these ships are not helicopter, weird for ship of 1300 t !
The old Jianghu had this ASW ability.

The most powerful ASW weapon that an 056 class can carry is probably an ASW helicopter. However, since the ship lack hanger facility, aviation support is likely limited.

The Z9EC ASW helicopter has operational combat radius of >200 km with dipping sonar and air-dropped torpedo.
