They are quite near on the side view too... a hot launched missiles will certainly be prone to spray the radar of the CIWS with his rocket fume. It's why I ask if they are cold launched. Found a link where we see cold launch from the front and hot launch from the back of type 055. So I found my answer. Radar are delicate things, it's why I was surprised by the proximity.

just look at the side view photo above from By78, there is more than sufficient separation between the VLS and the CIWS

How long the radar's gonna exposed to the fireball tho. That's the important question. Also for hot launched missiles like the YJ-18, there is a fire plenum in between the cells, where most of the flame would dissipate. Thus shortening the potential exposure of the exhaust gas to the radar.

Also could put the hot launch missiles in the forward VLS cells and just use cold launches near the CIWS.
