Doesn't sound right, unless those photos of CAD graphics were wrong, which clearly show a standard mechanical transmission. Plus it seems unlikely that a fully IEP 055 would need 4 large GTs + 6 generators. The official video account of China Shipbuilding claims that 055 is fully electric propulsion system
Type 055 CG is a great heavy warship
add to that the fast Type 901 replenishment tanker and build a solid fast Surface Action Group (SAG) around 4 x Type 055 with a Type 095 SSN below the surface
112 VLS x 4 = 448 VLS this is very serous firepower and such a SAG group roaming the Pacific Ocean would cause the USN to seriously commit its assets in large numbers to track such a battle formation
if China forms a number of these SAG they could use them to feint and use diversionary tactics to allow the Chinese Carriers to break the island chains
each Type 055 should carry 2 x Z20J + a rotary wing UAV for a good ASW sweep and the tanker could also add plenty of naval helicopters

4x 055s sounds like a rather unusual setup for a SAG given there is no cheap ASW platform to accompany it like a 054A or 054B. More likely a SAG would only have one or two 055s with a larger mix of 052Ds and 054A/Bs.
Type 905 is AOR part of Project 718. Project 718 ia a development code name stands for (a series of vessels, including survey ships, escort ships, and logistics supply ships, were developed for the far-sea observation mission) decided in 18.1.1967.Type 905 = Project 718 AOR? Is there also a Project designation for every Type?
I don't know about speed, because every SAG is going to be towing around an AOR unless it's for a very limited operational duration. AOEs are far fewer in the PLAN inventory, so you won't see them operating outside of a CSG very much, especially once the PLAN starts routinely churning out carriers. Even AOEs max out around 25kts so they are not speed demons by any stretch of the imagination. Firepower, endurance, and range are all directed tied to that AOR so speed by necessity will not be a primary consideration. Only the USN can really talk about speed because it's got bases all over the world, and can probably forgo an imbedded AOR in many cases if they can arrange to have an AOR rendezvous with the SAG when it's closer to its destination to top up. This could potentially be done at multiple waypoints. I don't think any other navy can claim this ability. Even in this case you couldn't make the entire voyage at flank speeds the whole way.the key in any SAG is speed, firepower , endurance and range, the smaller platforms wouldn't be able to keep up with the 30 knots + the Type 055 could do maybe Type 052D could accompany the Type 901 Tanker which is designed for Carrier Task Groups so definitely has the speed
also there would always be a SSN doing the same speed below the waves to add to the ASW
any USN SSN would be giving chase so emphasis on naval helicopters in my first post
Not really... Since there are too many Project code names and many of them have not been disclosed yet, and also some of the same Project code names refer to completely different things (Different military branches and departments may use the same code names), So it would be a difficult work to compelete. But as always, someone could try. Thanks! Is there a table of Projects and corresponding Types under each?
