Why compare Type 055 which already in serial production with DDG-X which haven't even entering steel cutting process ?

The nearest peer for Type-055 would be the Ticonderoga or the Arleigh burke or even Korean Sejong the Great

Nobody can answer it, even the Chinese elite. They obviously have target.

I'd bet that China would put operational laser guns on warships sooner than the US ... my guess is in mid to late 2030s

If we're talking "600kw" lasers, then not any time soon. A more interesting question is when will the PLAN deploy that coilgun we've seen hitching a ride on a 072III LST several years back. I think the ideal platform for that weapon would be a "055A" with IEP, which may be able to provide enough juice for that thing.

I am not saying it won't have the kinds of power to use HELs as 055 is a COGAG platform as well, I just highly doubt USN would be as ambitious if they are in a hurry... which... mind you, even if they are, DDG(X) timelines have been pushed all the way back to 2039 in the 2025 CBO report...

well, very hypothetically we can compare it with 055 MLU (25 year cycle), which will happen approximately then.
But it's so far into the future it's indeed devoid of any substance to discuss.

055 is from 2014. It is plausible we might see its succesor soon. The succesor may equip laser and rail gun.

This is plausible, consider J-20 was state of art around same time and now we have J-36 prototype.

We might see 055 succesor by 2030, around 5 years away.
