I don't think so. I was commenting on post #9372. There is a logical fallacy in what that "ex USN official" claimed.

It was the PLAN that define the requirements on the warships. All branches of PLA have officers (驻厂/所军代表) participating in design and manufacturing of their equipments from start to end. Not to mention that 052D is the third iteration of the 052 series. PLAN provided feedbacks to the designers and shipbuilders for the improvements.

The 052 series are PLAN's own babies. No one knows them better than the PLAN. It's ridiculous to say that PLAN do not have experience and operational competence in its own warships.

If it were about the Kilo class or the Sovremenny class in PLAN, he might have a point.
you said exactly what i wanted to say. if the PLAN were just handed a warship, it is true that it might be clueless as to how to use it, but the PLAN asked for specifications of those ships, they were built in accordance with the PLAN's idea of what it wants, they would obviously fit very well into the PLAN's operational design.

I don't even know what to do with that.
That's a really long list being run up, isn't it?
Do you not understand the value of practice?
Yeah, practice drilling against a near peer foe. If there isn't, then red team blue team exercises are best. What America does is not practice; it is bullying small countries. What America did with the Soviets is about the same practice Chinese ships can do with each other. Run around tracking, with no shooting.
Terrible analogy. More like a guy who's got his black belt in BJJ but has never got in the MMA ring. And China is doing what? Reading the manual? Seriously, if you can't see the difference between over half a century back and forth against an equal, all over the planet, vs five or ten years tooling around in a pond unopposed I think this conversation is done.
Terrible analogy for you. China's a fighter who trains doing drills and bag-work. America's a fighter who vaunts how experienced he is and how many fights he's won but he only hits children. Against a man his size or even greater, he's never dared stand against, and the trend continues in Ukraine.

BTW, India's stronger than any country the US dared face up against in direct military conflict since the Korean War where the US lost all of North Korea to China's advance... but China doesn't mind playing with India.
This is the kind of quality thought the Ignore button was designed for.
No, I'd say that these are instead:
"Everybody say la la la! Everybody say ha ha ha! Everybody say ta ta ta! Everybody say hello hello hello!"

Heard that song? Real spunky!

I think this poster should make prodigious use of the ignore button. Just like US sanctions will eventually leave them isolated with the petrodollar in ruin, he’ll be here on this forum talking to no one but himself, or having a circle jerk with his 2 or 3 buddies.

Who is more experienced? A martial artist doing dead lift and punch bag vs a guy punching children?

The USN might be going around the world more, also noted it has bumped a few more ships here and there. But the PLAN --- at least from the reports and the photographs --- appears to do a lot more live firings.
you've got to be kidding me right? how many live missile round firing were captured on their state of the art ship 055? all i've seen so far were some magazine scans and a couple 10 sec clips. the amount of overall media and disclosed legitimate info on USN far out trumps anything PLAN has.

The 055 is still new, but we already have seen a fair amount of firing, but that's not really the point when it should be the amount of 052C/D and 054A firing over the years, both anti air, anti ship and anti submarine. These three ships are important because that's where you start breaking crews on longer ranged layered air defense, crews that are later transferred to the 055. Even the 022 and 056 do a large amount of anti air firing. Towards the end of the year, there is live fire competition held among the 056 where crews and commanders are going to be graded.

At least three, possibly four missiles are going to be fired off from this ship. This is for an SCS exercise held last December.

Comparison 055 v DDG51

Has anybody seen this? Just wondering how people would react.

You two's sharing of Youtube content from crackpot internet commentators has caused nine pages worth of pointless back-and-worth that has lasted four days and is still going and going and going.

What a waste of time and screen real estate!

You see, this is precisely why posting dubious content from Youtube is highly, highly, highly discouraged and frowned upon.

Please exercise some freakin' judgement next time, FFS!!!

:mad::mad::mad:

@Deino, @Bltizo, @siegecrossbow, mods please clean up.

With the remaining 2 members of the 1st batch of 8 Type 055 destroyers slated for entering service by the end of this year (2022), we all know that China has confirmed order for another batch of 8 Type 055 destroyers.

Any information on how the 2nd batch of Type 055s would be like?

Will the 2nd batch be the same as the 1st batch (with/without slight modifications/upgrades), or will they be equiped with newer weapon systems (such as electromagnetic railguns and directed energy weapons)?

Speaking of which, there has been no updates/news regarding China's railgun project after the reveal of the test platform several years ago it seems...

Isn't it pretty safe to assume that there will be some modifications on the 2nd batch (afterall the 1st has already been commisioned now, and they should get some initial findings/reports on what can be improved).

As for whether or not they get a designation (055a or b or w/e) it's harder to say, maybe if something like a railgun on the front were to be a thing, but as it stands we really do not know how it's going with the railgun (could be abandoned, or just still in development).
I do not believe that they have outright dropped ideas for railguns (in general China should really be good on the electro-magnetism front with Ma Weiming professor I believe his name was).

The first 055, 101 after entering service in 2020 participated in 5 large excerise/long range patrols. I think we can assume PLAN are happy with the overall system.With 055 and 052D in larger numbers, I think we will see PLAN performing more and more long range patrols.

I don't see the point of railgun, or immediate need for more 055. I would like to see IEP on the new batch 055a, making the it more flexible to divert power to the powerful sensor suit and also for potential future upgrade.
