Yesterday a quite strange transport of a Z-20 mock-up was spotted on its way to Shanghai and rumours popped up, it might be related to tests on the Type 055 DDG ... this image is from today!

what are the missiles that can be quad packed in type 55 VLS ? is it the same VLS type used in 52D ?

It is the same VLS type, not sure about the lengths though (whether all 112 cells are 9 meters long). With regards to quad packing, we have not yet seen absolute evidence about this capability. It is theorized that the HHQ-16 SAMs are/can be quad-packed. Not sure if a PL-12 surface launch variant is also fielded and/or quad packed.

Nothing that is in PLAN service right now. SD-50 aka DK-10 might fit in it, but SD-50 is currently only an export item right now.

Russian 9M96 family of missiles (9M96, 9M96E and 9M96E2) can fit on it, given that HQ-9s are close to being physical copies of the Russian 5V55 and 40N6 missiles, and in paper these missiles can fit on any tube that can fit an HQ-9 or S-300 missile. You can even fit these on the 051C and the 052C. Getting these on the 051C is just a matter of signing a contract for the Russians, as the quad pack is a RIF-M option.

I don't know if China ordered these with their S-400 packages. Would be easy to copy it and add a seeker of "Chinese characteristics".
