Apologys for the mis understanding

First I said "under construction " and not visually indentifed and the time before the steel is cut and showing up in the shipyard as modules there is almost 6 months or more there are different stages of construction

The contract as we know is has 4 units

If we remember 1st Type 055 started in Dec 2014 then 2nd June 2015 which has just showed up too So we can assume that 3rd is under "construction " and we should see it very soon

Possibly 4th? Well maybe not but long lead materials must be in on for the 4th one too

so going back to my original comment 3 under construction possibly soon to be 4

What you guy think about this report any validity?

HONG KONG, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- China may not be far from launching a 10,000-ton Type 055 destroyer and building a semi-submersible ship.

According to Hong Kong news service UDN.com, satellite photos indicate Beijing is nearing completion on a supersize destroyer at Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai.

The warship could be launched before the end of 2016, according to the report published Friday.

Hong Kong-based military commentator Liang Guoliang said the photos show officers from the Zhongchuan Group, and the images indicate construction was reaching its final phase in preparation for a first-time launch.

There appear to be two Type 055 destroyers at the shipyard. At least one ship was equipped with engines, control devices and radar, Liang said.

The destroyer can displace about 12,000 tons and is the largest warship of its class to be manufactured in Asia, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

The UDN report stated the destroyer has 96 vertical launching system grids and a helipad capable of accommodating large military helicopters.

The Type 055 can carry YJ-100 long-range anti-ship cruise missiles, anti-submarine missiles and anti-aircraft missiles.

Other Chinese warships in active service include the Type 051 and 052 destroyers.

China is also making swift progress on the construction of ultra-large semi-submersible ships.

Guangzhou Shipyard International had built a semi-submersible ship at Guangzhou Shipyard on Thursday.

The ship named "Xinguanghua" was delivered to Zhongyuan Shipping the owner, according to the report.

most of it correct or consistent with what we have seen from pictures, apart from this part: "There appear to be two Type 055 destroyers at the shipyard. At least one ship was equipped with engines, control devices and radar, Liang said."

We have no evidence of the first 055 equipped with any engines, and the topside superstructures to our knowledge has not been installed either meaning no radars of substance could have been installed at this stage.
96 VLS is also very much on the extremely low end of current estimates and I'm not sure where it was pulled from.

Also, given 055s dimensions its displacement will likely exceed 12000 tons at full, probably closer to 13000 tons.

overall it's a very average/poor article and doesn't tell us anything which we didn't already know. I'm surprised why they would cite a HK news site either. Their place in the totem pole of credibility WRT the Chinese military is meh at best.

It's valid from a standpoint of telling us what we already know and it's a relatively vague article but good enough for the mainstream public I suppose.

We already know about the 055s and the ROROs. The only thing that may be a bit optimistic is the launch date of 2016. We're less than 3 weeks away before it rolls over.

oh i missed that.

Yeah, 055's not going to be launched in 2016. Too much work still to do. It doesn't even have topside superstructures assembled yet.

To compliment your first pic and give more perspective. No idea what that orange object is. Don't think it's actually part of the ship but just construction gear? An orange metal port-a-potty?

The teething issues that Type 45 and Zumwalt have experienced would seem to indicate that China is wise to wait for IEP to mature.

and learn as much from other peoples mistakes as possible.

So far, that seems like a lot as these teething issues come to the fore.

I think based on the picture on the bow, it looks like it is part of some kind of temporary venting system.
