i don't think there is any reason to boast about it. It's been well know for a while that chinese shipyards have lower cost than other countries. The Koreans built KDX-3 for really cheap too. If you factor in the lower cost of weapon system, that's an advantage PLAN will have. fyi, 6 billion RMB is $900 million at current exchange rate. The design work is done by the 701 Institute, so I would imagine they got paid already. The 6 billion number should just be for shipyard building the hull + installing the electronics (but not including the guns and missiles if I had to guess). Of course, cost may go up or down as they start to build more.

I can't believe PLAN would accept a Type 055 without the guns installed - I'm pretty sure they're paid as part of the navy purchase price to the gun supplier. Missiles are iffy. Helicopters most definitely not.

Who remembers when that list came out of "rumours" listing Chinese future warships

They included 50,000 ton replenishment tanker the 2 X 12,000 ton cutters and the Type 055 CG

First Two we have seen in the water now it's time to see Type 055 !!

How time flys !!!

Is it just me or did the bow make an unexpected appearance?

Anyhow, it would be nice if a photographer could get a forward VLS cell count.

I imagine the VLS module would only be installed into the hull once all the blocks are welded together. At this stage we will only be able to see an empty space in the relevant hull block, and while that would be useful for us to estimate how many VLS modules may fit in, it would be a guess at best and dependent on a very high quality and spatially proportional photo, which at this stage seems unlikely.

I personally expect we will only be able to get a firm VLS count for the ship very late into the construction process, and possibly not until even after the ship is immediately launched. With 052D it took a few weeks after DDG 172 launched to get a firm confirmatory count of the number of actual cells there were. I wouldn't hold out hope for anything too much sooner than that for the first 055.

Perhaps, but the fact that the VLS area is raised in the representation lends to the possibility that something is already in place.

Of course, this could just be an artistic nuance, and that a VLS count would be possible near or after its launch.

I would definitely assume it's just artistic license...

After all, the artist has also painted the hull white and red at the waterline, which is another artistic license that is not present on the real life hull modules

CG is most likely just rough rendering of the real work-in-progress, like I can't believe that the bow deck adopts the kind of low-RCS, all covered up design we see on new generation of Europe-made warships.

In any case, by this progress the hull should be fully put together by December.
