Ugh, isn't that a 052C beside the Sigint ship? This suggests that this picture is dated.
Unless of course the PLAN has ordered additional 052C's.... despite already having 052D's available.

Yes, it is an 052C, but that doesn't mean the photo is an old one.

After all, it's common for ships to return to their shipyard for refits or some yard work even after commissioning, and that is true for all navies. In the case of JNCX, we've seen 052Cs and 052Ds return to the shipyard for work well after they've been commissioned.

The 2016 DoD report on the Chinese military says that construction of the first 055 started in 2015, with a commissioning in the 2017-2018 timeframe.

It's also pretty emphatic that the "Type 093B" SSN and Type 095 are entirely different things.

All these have been known among the net crowd for some time now; it's just that now DoD agrees officially with the crowd intelligence/wisdom.

Sounds reasonable, although I think the first vessel may only be commissioned 2018-2019.

They're a bit off with their 052D commissioning, because two 052Ds entered service in 2015 for a total of three in service, rather than two. It's fair that DDG174 only entered service in december of 2015, but given this report would have been written in the last few months (I imagine), they should have had more than enough time to update it.

What's the point of censoring the inner parts of the hull? Because I can't find any reasonable arguments for doing so.
