Type 055 needs to be global power projection with multiple mission profile

That means global reach with global capability

So we are looking at 9,000 tons plus

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 10,000 ton plus with 128 VLS

Hmmm...I thought that a 10-12K displacement was pretty locked in, and that the CVLS capacity was closing in on 112. (a 48 section and a 64 section)

Did you see a see a site or or publication that's says 9,000 tons?

I think he's just making a projection based on his own assessment of what the Chinese Navy needs...

At present the consensus is definitely a 12,000 ton standard displacement vessel, with a VLS count of 112-128 (varies depending on who we're listening to).

Well nothing official but more and more talk and illustrations are pointing in that general direction

That doesn't mean it's true but maybe a possibility

Hot/Cold launch, anti air, anti ship, land attack and ASW

Twin hanger for medium sized helo and 30 knots easy

Fixed and rotating AESA radars and around 9,000 to 10,000 tons based on extrapolating rough dimensions from Type 052D

I hope we see this unit soon

Everything else in your post is alright, but displacement is a bit of... imho

There have been enough rumours from insiders and big shrimps in the last year I think, for the current consensus to say the 055's standard displacement will be about 12,000 tons.

We can't simply extrapolate and make up what we think the ship may look like without looking at the rumours from big shrimps.

Well that would at min be the lowest point in the weight can it be higher ? Yes off course it can as we don't know what weapons are going to be on board

I expect 10,000 tons to be the empty displacement of the ship, 12,000 tons to be standard, and 13,500 tons to be full.

All the big shrimps seem quite consistent in the last year or say saying the ship will have a standard displacement of 12,000 tons... if new rumours or info comes to light that projetion may change.

I've written an entry on my site about the 055 class destroyer, briefly going over the ship's history and discussing some of the key characteristics and specifications of the ship that we know about and which we expect, based on reliable rumours over the years and the characteristics of the mock up.

Projection: 055 class destroyer overview

Background:
In early 2013, rumours in the Chinese military watching community began to speak of a new large surface combatant under development for the Chinese Navy, with a tentative designation of 055. General descriptions flitted to and fro, describing a ship with over a hundred VLS with a displacement over 10,000 tons. However such rumours were initially treated with substantial caution if not outright disdain by some individuals in Chinese military watching circles. After all, the 052D class destroyer had only just arrived on the scene, and the lead ship had yet to enter service. A new cruiser sized ship seemed like fantasy.

However, in late 2013 more rumours from more reliable sources began to trickle in, with greater detail that looked plausible. Then in early 2014, pictures emerged of a mock up under construction, for what was clearly a large surface combatant, and Chinese state and military media began acknowledging the existence of a new surface combatant and even the 055 designation.

Construction of a distinctive mockup at the Chinese Navy test facility at Wuhan was discovered in early 2014
Thus the 055 class “large destroyer” (as described in Chinese parlance) was confirmed as the next upcoming major surface combatant for the Chinese Navy.
