It seems they have a great system of launching and commissioning 2 ships, including their first training exercises (around Japan, etc) at the same time as the new 052Ds.

It seems very efficient for crew training.

Maybe when 055 production restarts it will be in batches of 2, every 6 months or so.

Gosh I hope they make more of these things. The eight they made is more than enough to keep parity with Japan and South Korea but I don't think it is enough.

What would you rather see every 4 years:

A) 16 Type 055 destroyers and 1 Type 003 carrier

B) 8 Type 055 destroyers and 2 Type 003 carriers

I don't understand. Are there any inherent tradeoffs between the two plans (assuming both are viable on their own) that you lay out above, in terms of priority, capacity or budget? Please elaborate.

No nation has an infinite budget. Money spent on one weapons platform is money that could of been spent on something else. So there is always an opportunity cost. What is a better strategy:

I see. You need to consider the strategic context and requirements. At this point, PLAN has plenty of modern surface combatants, including cruiser/destroyer/frigate. China's naval strategy going forward is to build around carriers and it has a shortage of high-end carriers currently. So the priority is to build carriers and any necessary escort cruisers/destroyers that go with CBGs.

So to answer your question in short, China needs to build more carriers, let's say 2 Type 003 carriers and whatever number it needs to support them, be it 8 or 16 Type 055. If you insist that the budget be insufficient, which is not true but for the sake of argument, then 8 Type 055 - they can always use other destroyers such as 052D.

What I read was there will be a minimum of 1 large destroyer per CBG, not 4.
Yes I see the phrase "a minimum of" but in wartime if they go with only one large 055 AAW destroyer per CVBG (with the rest of the AAW effort contributed to by a few 052Ds), I'm afraid the CV's odds to become a coral reef will increase greatly.
