There is an aiming device on the barrel of the PJ-26

The export NG16-1A 76mm gun and the guns on 054AP don't have the CS2 muzzle velocity radar too IIRC. I'm not saying this isn't potentially a new gun ofc. Have you been able to identify the source of the image? Also what could warrant a switch to the 100mm caliber on frigates, more range and shell weight while being possible to achieve the same fire rates?

Two more alleged tender documents, both are for lightning protection equipment.

The first tender is for the production and installation of lightning rods and a monitoring device for an integrated lightning protection system (集成避雷设备监测记录装置和避雷针的生产及安装). The second tender is for a titanium alloy

for the lightning protection system (集成避雷设备钛合金滑环加工). The existence of the slip ring may indicate/confirm the rumored mast-mounted rotating radar.

If I remember correctly Chinese frigates before the 54A were using 100mm guns, I speculate the PLAN aren't too happy with the downsizing to a 76mm gun after operating the 54A for some time.

Another speculation from me is that the alleged reliability issues with the latest 100mm gun have been solved or designed from scratch and a newer 100mm gun was always intended for the 54A frigates, but the problems could not be solved in time or required a redesign that could only be incorporated with the 54B and the 76mm was a compromise.

Hmm while it's certainly true that the 100mm shell's larger volume allows for better capabilities I wonder if it's worth the trouble of operating another caliber since there are already so many frigates and LPDs carrying PJ26. But then of course there are still 100mm armed destroyers and frigates around so technically PLAN is already operating 3 calibers...

Speaking of which - Judging by the large-sized openings around the midsection of the ship, do we know which ones are for the propulsion system and which one is for the VLS (if any)?

The frontal opening certainly is for the UVLS cells, no doubt about it. Though, it would be better if they could just get rid of the slanted launchers fitted amidships on the 054A in favor of the UVLS on the 054B.

Tom helpfully added some updates on the 052D in Dalian too, so we can somewhat compare them (sorry just a basic snip rush job on the picture).

Its probably too early to tell but it may only have a forward VLS and the other openings are all related to engines or other subsystems. Given its duties as frigate and perhaps a strong focus on ASW it may well make do with 32 cells, with UVLS just for added ordnance flexibility.
