A little disappointed, the vls of 054B and 054A is the same type

Was already expecting this.

But where are the terminal illuminators for the HHQ-16?

I can see none at all and not even provisions for such.

I am inclined with increasing certainty by now we are seeing a new kind of HHQ-16 that's much longer ranged with active guidance.

There's the HQ-16FE, which is purported to have a max range of ~160 kilometers and a max interception altitude of ~27 kilometers.

And this is for export. So perhaps the 054B FFGs will be the ones to field the domestic version of the HQ-16FE.

...
No need for disappointment.
Here's the way I see it.
Before the Type 054B frigate was officially launched, everybody knew that it was either going to have:
a) two helicopters
b) larger VLS cells
c) IEP integrated electric propulsion

The answer was ALWAYS going to be: A, B, or C. It was never going to be D --- all of the above.
That's asking for a bit too much.
Actually the answer could be D --- None of the above.
Now that would be a disappointment. :(
