054/A FFG Thread II

Assuming that piece of Hull section is an 054A and not something else it really goes to underscore the level of investment China is making in its fleet. This means they have concurrently running DDG, FFG, LPD and SSK construction as wells as the ongoing work on Varyag. To my knowledge only the USN currently matches this and if this construction rate is sustained the PLAN will have a very large and modern fleet in the years to come.

Just uploading the photo now, so don't have to visit a mysterious link.

I compared the photo to my earlier 054A photos from HD and they look pretty similar. So, this should be the 5th 054A fro HD shipyard. Of course, HP is quite ahead of HD in 054A construction.

Anyone know whats the purpose of that mock up Z-9?

not really sure, they always have them there though. Maybe to test a regular loaded weight on it.

Anyway, here are some pictures of 054A from recent magazine.

more pictures from Hudong shipyard for the 4th unit of 054A. I'm kind of surprised that this isn't getting fitted out faster. It's been out since May and there is still a lot of scaffolding on the superstructures.

With all due respect, may I point out that, like HD Hull 4 CHANGZHOU, HP Hull 4 548 YIYANG has also spent inordinately long time in the shipyard. It was launched on 15 November 2009 and has been running sea trials since May. If I understand the Chinese text in # 658 correctly, however, it was expected to commission in October this year.
