054/A FFG Thread II

This is one of the most sweeping statements I have seen . It is remiss to assume that everything that is expensive is automatically the "best hardware".

It is very difficult to determine the quality of military grade products , but by extension , look at civillian products . Look at some of the "best hardware" products the US actually manufactures . For e.g Cars - last I heard , the Big 3 were all in financial ruins .

I mean , would any average men in the street American want to buy a Ford or a GM ? Go figure this one.

What I am try to say here is the cost of manufacturing and showmanship in the US and Japan is top notch. Look at how much it cost to purchase a type 90 tank or the FSX-F2. Of course both are build with ultra high quality and cost lot more then the Chinese counterpart but it is twice as good? PLAN have a different philosophy, I think it have to do with cost/performance ratio.

In a way he did. The point here I guess is that things that could be cheap are made much more expensive because they're manufactured in the US.

"A glass of water please"
"That'll be 500$"

I you really want to know go ask a Walmxxt exec and he/she will be able to show you the actual data and product.

Here is an interesting study by the Rand Corporation on the subject of the escalation in costs of modern combat ships.

According to this study, labor rate growth is responsible for only a quarter of the cost growth in new ship construction. The study also looks at the trend in commercial ship cost growth, which they found matches that for US Navy combat ships. In their opinion, cost growth above normal inflation is due to customer demands for increased size and more capabilities. Interesting study, have a read.

Absolute costs for ship construction increases with greater feature creep in every new ship design because complexity of construction has increased faster than advances in construction technology. Just as the Industrial Revolution transformed production techniques from their Age of Sail equivalents, a similar production transformation is necessary for comparable changes in manufacturing costs in the future.

let's see, it says length is 132 m
width is 15 m
draft is 5 m
full displacement is 4500 tonne
Really again different stats from before. I still think the 134m by 16 m that's been used on other broadcast is probably right. And 4500 is probably the full displacement. And the other figures given so far are displacement for the mission that they went on.
It also mentions that it uses 2 Type 81 six-tube anti-submarine rocket launcher (unlike Type 87 stated on SDF website).

We have some pictures of 054A here. They include the two units that are in ESF. And, we also have the picture of the 3rd 054A from HP, it looks like most of the work for it has been complete.

More pictures of the 3rd 054A from HD shipyard. Looks like still a lot of works before it will be ready for sea trials. We also see a photo of the 4th 054A from HP shipyard. At least it looks that way from previous pictures.

^ These are the 7th and 8th ships? Do you think they will keep producing up to 12 Type 054A total?

the HD ship is the 3rd pair. The HP ship is the first of the 4th pair. I'm not venturing any more guesses at this point.
