a couple of more pictures for the 3rd 054A from HD. It's still quite early, looks like they got a lot more work to go before it can start sea trial.

Soon.. Once they finish chunk out all modern frigate. Destroyer will be next.

YES !
because the break in chinese destroyers construction (after the type 052C & 051C in 2004/2007).

The next chinese destroyer (052D ?) take probably some news (or major ?) improvement (versus 052C).....and much more.....

Probably, the chinese WAITING the US final choice about the main next futur surface combattant of 2015's-2040's period:
- CG(N?)X
- FSC (futur surface combattant, replacement for the earlier DDG arleigh burke ?)
- Arleigh burke flight III or IV ?

:confused::confused::confused:

its prolly better if the Chinese work harder on its size and displacement, maybe approaching 9000 or even 10000...imagine two of those lol. also need better electronics and ASW stuff...

Maybe PLAN is waiting for the final decision on the tonnage and number of carriers they are going to field, based on that they can then design new destroyers to form the battle group. Just a thought.

I've just read a Defense Industry Daily article about India's Project 17A stealth frigate (

), and it got me thinking.
Really how... effective is the 054/054A in comparison to future frigates?
The Project 17A frigate will supposedly have a towed array sonar, which we haven't confirmed if the 054/054A has yet.
The Project 17A "ship “signature reduction” levels are expected to be up to fully modern standards, similar to Singapore’s new Formidable Class frigates from France". The 054A's RCS and signature reduction levels - are they as good as the La Fayette class?
Because while the 054A is a really good frigate, is it good enough for the future?
Or will we be seeing a 054B anytime soon with bigger signature reduction than the current 054A?

With the kinds of powerful radar's we're seeing now, "stealth" surface ships can't really hide... its just that their signature looks smaller, and may be confused with smaller vessels.

Submarine is still the only truly stealth warship around today.

I think we will see final upgrade plans for type 054A frigate and the type 052C destroyer to support the new carrier if China decide to build it. While the current 054A and 052C will support the Varyag to form the training carrier battle group. This way it will help PLAN decide the design of the 054B and 052D. Also we might hear about 095 and 096 by then.
